I’m very curious to know the criteria for this.
I love Starkville, but objectively I don’t know how they came to this conclusion.

Hey! How exactly is a rainbow made? How exactly does a sun set? How exactly does a posi-trac rear-end on a Plymouth work? It just does

I want to move back

Starkville is awesome and the city continues to make improvements. It is a great place to live aside from HWY12.

I love Starkville, and I don’t want to live anywhere else, but even I would have a hard time ranking Starkville as the best place to live in Mississippi. I guess everybody gets a little jaded with their home town, but it just seems like Starkville is lacking in food and entertainment compared to other places. I just wish we had a bowling alley and a place to play putt-putt.

I live in Starkville and there's not another town in MS I would consider living in...
I know that all the Tupelo and Meridian and etc folks will come to the rescue soon...

I think they are taking a lot of things under consideration, namely the future explosion of the GTR and all the economic boon that will bring. If Oktibbeha County Hospital would get its **** together and expand or be allowed to be acquired(I know Baptist Memorial attempted to acquire them after they merged with Baptist Health Systems in Jackson) then I would definitely move back and work at the hospital. As it stands now they are not much more than a bandaid station.

They just reached some sort of agreement with UMC.

I rode down there today with my son to square away his apartment for his last undergrad year. Did a little shopping, checked out the New Dude (it looks WAY bigger and better with the sky boxes and the Lofts framed up), and had lunch at Two Brothers. Good day. Starkville has come a LONG way guys. I think it's come a lot farther than even those that love the place realize.

I’ve been out of state for 12 years now. Only visited a few times since.
When I saw this(Starkville #1) it kind of made sense to me. But where IS the most desirable place to live in MS and why? I honestly, can never remember anyone ever saying they’d like to live in a different town in MS ever, no matter where I was or who I was with.
Has any place become a “cool” town or maybe slightly more progressive?

Go get some wings and Duck sliders or street tacos at Two Brothers....you will forget the spring rolls. It made 50+year old "alumni" (according to my son) forget Oby's. Yeah I know, but Oby's is about the only thing around from my day. Two Brothers is stinking awesome.

I’d say Madison is nicer. Some areas of Southaven would probably be considered nicer. Most of my opinion Is based on the lack of entertainment and food options, which I fully realize are a part of me living here my whole life. I know I take some places for granted, but being closer to Jackson or Memphis opens up a ton of options. All of that said, there’s no where else I’d rather live than the Golden Triangle. If we could just bring the price of housing down in Starkville, paying $30-$60 to eat at a mediocre restaurant would be much more palatable.

I worked at Oby’s when I was in school almost 20 years ago. They made pretty much everything from scratch. I imagine their business is suffering from all the new places in Starkville. I’m still stuck on these old places and need to branch out next time I go.

Yeah, the only reason I still live in Meridian is because of friends and living on a golf course. Meridian seems to be trying to improve, but continues to lose people. Luckily I have a condo in Orange Beach so that gives me some variety. And living just 90 miles from State makes it easy to slide up for a sporting event. I sometimes wish I had retired to Starkville and with my beach condo I would have the best of both worlds. Oh well......

I know that every city in Mississippi has some really dumpy areas. Yes, even Madison.

I would guess that a survey to determine best city to live in covers a wide berth. Places to get drunk probably pale in the determination. But nice restaurants that have good service, good food and modest wait times, competive grocery stores, decent clothing stores, property values (in both directions), outdoor recreation facilities, and number of churches probably rate pretty high.

Well Starkville is my favorite place in MS & I will retire there, God willing. I'll kick back and watch sports year round, fish, and enjoy the heck out of my golden years, which isn't too far off. No mall is just fine for me, and plenty of places to eat for me as well. Looking forward to it.

Add high quality schools to your list.

Is the Golden Triangle mall in Columbus still open? If it is, it would satisfy my need to go to a mall once a year for Christmas shopping.
