A little over 10,000 people murdered with a gun every year. Why do we appear shocked when it happens?

BTW, annual gun murders are actually way down from the peak in the mid 90s.

There is no excuse for this sort of thing to happen, but in a country of 300,000,000 its gonna happen

With freedom comes responsibility. Greasy foods kill a lot of americans every year too. I still see new Mcdonalds and Wendys being built everywhere.

From the latest AP story I read there were no shots fired and that he didn't even have a gun. Twitter and "active shooter" reports are putting more fear into people than is necessarily needed. Even the incident here in the Antioch (Nashville) movie theater a few weeks ago, the suspect never fired a shot (and he didn't have a real gun), but "active shooter" was reported.

No apoligies needed. That is what everyone was saying this morning (even official sources). I think people are too quick to assume something and Tweet it and it turn out to not even be true (just a lot of mis-information).

Yep. The whole notion of we want news and we want it now (even if it is not accurate). It's a race to see who can break the news the fastest with out gathering all the facts.

At the University of Oregon, about a month ago, we got UO Alerts via text (something you opt into in order to receive any critical info immediately) about a man in scrubs carrying a gun by the football stadium. A couple minutes later, one came out saying the man had moved over next to the Science Center, then the next one is disregard, it was an umbrella. People panic and that send everyone else into panic.

Notice that this crap started picking up when newspapers started dying?

Click, click, click... we need those damned clicks to survive... and by Gawd, we're going to do everything in our power to get them.

When you outlaw guns, only outlaws have guns.

This slogan has way outlived it's shelf life, but it is still essentially true. Those who think we can round up the millions of guns in this country are just as naive as those who think we are going to deport 11,000,000 illegal immigrants. They're here to stay, and the best way to deal with it is through documentation, in both cases.
