I hate the Cardinals, as you well know, but that dude is awesome.

If this makes them less competitive, which it would have to because he is so good, do you think this makes a Pujols trade more likely now?

He's repeatedly stated that he'd veto any trade and he has the 10-and-5 rights to do so.

I think we'll make a push to get Kevin Millwood... and we did a smart thing by getting insurance in Miguel Batista... but it's definitely disappointing to see Waino go down like this.

I still think we can win plenty of games though... Carp, Garcia, Westbrook, and Lohse isn't ideal, but it's not terrible either.

if pooholes has any loyalty and respect for the cardinals organization (and i think he does), and he's for sure not going to resign with them and the season falls apart due to injuries, it'd be awfully dick of him not to agree to a trade to a team willing to sign him to an extension for a boat load of prospects. i know if he leaves in free agency they get some compensatory picks, which is nice when you lose an avg vet, but a pujols caliber guy can bring multiple high end prospects, at least 1 if not more of them essentially mlb ready or already in the bigs.

I think Pujols wants to sign with the Cardinals. I think this "deadline" that was put in placewas for two reasons... 1) To not distract the entire team with constant questions throughout the year 2) I think his agent was more excited about this than Pujols was... The agent knew media pressure would be intense on the deadline and may force STL's hand in offering too much. The Cardinals organization held strong though... even though I feel that low-balled him somewhat.

Pujols wants to stay in STL (or he's a good liar). I think in the end, he's going to sign with the Cardinals for 8 years and 215$ million'ish range.

yeah, i mean i agree with you for the most part, just saying that if he really has or eventually does decide to walk away from stl, the respectful thing to do would be to allow them to shop him around to at least a limited number of teams.

I don't think the Cardinals are going to trade Pujols either.

Yeah, they may get a bunch of prospects, but what are the odds that they as a group would pan out to be as good as Pujols?

I think letting him go would give the Cardinals a lot more flexibility as far as replacing him if they don't resign him.

Sucks for me to because Wainwright is my favorite Cardinal pitcher. Time for Dave Duncan to work his magic with Miguel Bautista.

Wainwright has expensive option years for '12 and '13 that won't vest if he gets TJ surgery. He'd basically be a FA after this year.

I think Lynn could make the team, but if he does, they will probably start him out of the bullpen.

LaRussa will start a rookie if he absolutely has to, but he doesn't like doing it. See Adam Wainwright who pitched out of the bullpen for a year.
