Mississippi State announces seven-year deal with Adidas

Mississippi State announced a new seven-year extension with Adidas worth more than $17 million.
In 2009 Mississippi State agreed to a 5-year deal worth $3 million in product. The new deal speans seven years worth $17.5 million in both product and cash.
“Loyalty is important. And Adidas came to us when we may not have been as appealing,” MSU athletic director Scott Stricklin said. “They outperformed. They went above and beyond. And our coaches are incredibly happy with that relationship.”
Fans haven’t always been pleased with Adidas. One of the biggest complaints involves the similarity between Mississippi State and Texas A&M’s uniforms.
“I’ll be really honest, as we’ve moved into the last couple of years things have gotten a little closer than we’d like them to be,” Adidas’ Director of football Mark Daniels said. “We are diligently focused on separating them even more.”
When Mississippi State originally signed its deal with Adidas MSU and A&M were in separate conferences. The Aggies joined the SEC in 2012. When that happened the similarities were highlighted.
“You’ve got two very similar schools both in the same sub-division of the same conference, that both have the same colors, you start with that,” Daniels said. “Ok, there’s a lot of heritage, a lot of tradition at both schools. We have to be honest and respect that and separate where we can.”
Adidas also allows coaches to help design the uniforms. Daniels said sometimes coaches’ preferences are very similar. With similar colors there are only so many options.
“What we have to do is look at that history and tradition and say OK, how do we modernize that?” Daniels said. “And how do we modernize that in a way that separates.”
Daniels believes the Egg Bowl jerseys from last season and the uniforms for this year’s home-opener display that separation.
“How do we take a deeper dive into those heritage pieces, those tradition pieces and create further separation,” Daniels said. “I think you say that a little bit in both of the uniforms.”

Interesting that he says they are trying to separate us and TAMU more. I was thinking that the maroon in the new uni's looked closer to our Sherrill-era shade of maroon rather than our past couple of uni's.

Those quotes piss me off. Our colors are close to TAMU, so what, tons of schools have the same color scheme. They gave us the exact same design several times. Lazy bastards.

In the video interview one of the Adidas guys did with Bob he mentions that it takes nearly 2 years to do a jersey, so if you think about it the jerseys A&M and MSU got the summer before they joined were already planned... And if they had debuted those uni's with us 2 being in different conferences it wouldn't have mattered to us fans as much (maxi pads still look like ****).

Obviously someone could have stopped someone halfway and been like "****! They're in the same conference now! Let's change something last minute!"... But I think they've done a good job since the unveil of mixing it up for both schools. They wear a lot of grey, we mix and match helmets and busted out new uni's at the end of the year.

I'm ok with it going forward. Just scared the **** out of me when it was brand new. I don't think they'll be with Adidas much longer anyway.

it may be true but I have a hard time believing it takes 2 years to do a jersey

Me too. Unless the clock starts ticking when the cotton seed is planted. That would also explain why freshmen and sophomores don't getting playing time. They're waiting on their jersey.

Just passing on what he said, and assuming he's not full of ****, speculating that as to why Adidas made 2 of their 26 teams, the only 2 with the same color scheme, have the same jerseys.

If it takes 2 years, then how did we get new unis that just happened to coincide with Mullen's arrival?

/maybe the deal was in place, I don't know.

Probably because after they designed the uniforms and put a lot of money into making them, then putting them out in circulation, it takes time and money. They probably already had a plan and it was being implemented. So now that they are beginning a new cycle they can do better with the schemes.
