He was actually on the MSU baseball roster very briefly before Ron Polk realized that he was on the football team and was black.
Polk: Hey, Tommy, did you realize that the CF was a (blazing saddles)?

he started 2 black outfielders on his UGA CWS team. I honestly don't believe the man is racist. I do very much believe he's never gone out of his way to recruit black players though, but he has recruited a few over the years. The vast majority of them went pro though.
It's a long running joke but some people take it too seriously.

The Adron Chambers episode was pretty embarrassing. Hated to lose him, he looked like a decent prospect with some speed we needed badly at the time.
He did have a nice interception in overtime at UAB that helped us win our first game of the year in 2006 I believe.
