if someone writes a book on this team that should be the title. The Frazier episode in the first and now Renfroe should have been thrown out at 3rd on a hit to LF because somehow he thought it was going to be caught. Pretty obvious from the start that it wasn't catchable. Everything seems to be shaky when our guys run the bases.

"Achieving Laserlike Focus on the Negatives" is another one that could be written...

Not about this team though**

We have a very good team... that makes baserunning look like rocket science. It is what it is and when I see the same mistakes over and over I'm going to say something about it. If we could eliminate some of the stupid mistakes we make, mostly on the basepaths, this team could potentially be a great team. Who knows, take out the Ammarati baserunning blunder last night with the bases loaded and this weekend might have been a sweep. LSU and Vandy don't do those type things and that's one of the reasons they are where they are.

I was all like, "Hunter, it was so obvious that was gonna fall. You should have totally been sitting where I was instead of on 2nd base trying to judge how far that ball was gonna carry while trying to see if the outfielder was fast enough to get there at the same time. Your and dubmass, Hunter!!"

curious, but how many vandy/lsu games have you watched this year?

Several, but in any case, I've watched all the SEC teams that have PLAYED US this year and I haven't seen any repeatedly make the baserunning blunders we do. And I happen to be watching LSU play Bama right now. Like I said we've got a really good team but great teams don't routinely give away outs on the basepaths. Its getting to where on this board that as long as we win then its taboo to point out any warts that our team might have. The baserunning has been a recurring issue all year so I'm not really sure why I''m getting all the defensive responses except that if we win nobody is allowed to point out things that, if they aren't corrected, are going to cost us in the long run when we play top quality teams (like we will playing next weekend).

You should check out the Brewers' Jean Segura base running adventure from today. Regarding our team, we had a couple this past weekend, but I hadn't noticed that we were running errors "routinely." Our stolen base statistics look solid.

Exactly. Good is good enough for most everyone here. I believe that we can be the bama of college baseball, but you don't get there by being content. To be great, you've got to aspire for excellence.

I agree. I am pumped about the series win, but I feel like we need more pitching depth, and we need to cut down on dumb base running if we're going to make an Omaha run.

There was no reason to put Holder in the game up 6-0 in the 9th today. Zero. Bracewell hasn't pitched in a while, and neither has Evan, Woody, Gentry, Girodo, Shelly, Cox, etc....so why not let one of those guys close it out?

The things I listed above doesn't mean I'm not happy with the wins and the way we've been playing...I just feel like those are the few things we can improve that would make us go from Super Regional contender to National Championship contender.

I

don't have a problem w pointing out deficiencies. However, I think it's unfair to make a statement such as that (regarding vandy or lsu) unless ones seen all of their games. I highly doubted you had, that was my point.

.

The only thing i will disagree with is your statement that baserunning has been an issue "all year" , when the truth is it has been an issue for 5 years now.

Other than that, you are spot on right.

This team runs bases badly and that can be the difference in being a good team and a great team.

The ignorant will point to our base stealing % to defend our baserunning, but fail to understand that is a small part of good baserunning.

I believe baserunning is the most over looked part of the game, and is important enough to have an asst. Coach who does nothing else but teach baserunning. Many games are decided by how a team runs the bases.
