The Jets certainly didn't take any big name qb.....no surprise trades.

Really...status quo at the position.

Bryce Petty is certainly considered to have real potential to become the future starter. Most (Jets) fans and sports media project that he'll need at least a year to 'come up to speed'.

Has Jets new OC Chan Gailey decided to run the spread (as he has in the past) ? Gailey has made some very pedestrian QB's look better than average. ...but he has been out of the game for the last two seasons.

Fitzpatrick will probably start, if the season goes south Geno and Petty will get opportunities.

I'll agree that Fitzpatrick was brought in to be the starter. Still....it's not a done deal. Geno has another season under his belt and some preseason games to shine (over Fitz).

It should be noted that Fitzpatrick eventually (game 3) won the starting job with Buffalo in '10...under the leadership of head coach......Chan f'n Gailey.

I predict a situation similar to how Josh McCown in Tampa played out. They brought in a vet in an attempt to save what projects to be a rebuilding season, and once it implodes they'll play musical chairs at QB to get some looks at potential solutions or cheap but effective backups

Geno will start and will show improvement for the first time. Fitz is the only risk for our boy but I'm convinced that Geno's struggles are behind him.

People have given up on Geno Smith but I think it's premature to do so. The tools are there and if he gets his head right he could be damn good QB. Let's not forget that he's been operating with no talent around him.

V, I really am a Geno fan.

What do you mean by, '...if he gets his head right...' ?
He's struggled with the game mentally and that was my first thought but also he's had to deal with the mental beating he's taken from fans and the media. That's a lot for a guy to get past when he's faced little adversity in the past.

I've typically been impressed with how he has dealt with the media... ....outside of his unspoken draft tantrum. I've always felt he said the 'right' things.

I don't think he'll ever truly have the 'This is my team' confidence (despite what he or the ownership might say).

I suspect the Jets realize Geno has rare talent, even among NFL QBs and it certainly appears that the Jets are committed to giving Geno a chance to show what he can do, with finally giving him some weapons.

I'm not a fan of all the criticism Geno gets for the mental part of the game. For unknown reasons, that I hope are not race related, Jets fans too easily discount the facts surrounding Geno................

Geno had to play/start to soon because of the sanchez injury. Geno had one of the worst supporting casts in the NFL. Geno had a 3 time loser as offensive coordinator - the guy has failed and been fired everywhere he's been.

One thing I'd bet the farm on, Petty is not going to beat out Geno. Geno will have to lose his job.

WTF? Why would you bring race into this or even imply it? Geno has a history of having problems between the ears and that is not limited to his time with the Jets. I swear, some of you are so blinded by the gold and blue that you have no sense of reality at all.
