After looking at the pitching matchups this weekend

I like our chances as long as Devin Jones doesn't have a performance like he did last weekend. Varnadore is starting on sunday and might be their best pitcher, so that one could be difficult. Our bullpen actually looks deeper, so if we can take out Luckie or their saturday starter early that would be huge. Most of their relief pitchers that have seen significant playing time already have an ERA over 4.00. Casey McElroy is going to be the biggest offensive threat. He is hitting over .400 and has 4 home runs. They have four other guys hitting over .300.

"I like our chances as long as Devin Jones doesn't have a performance like he did last weekend". The key wording "as long as". He may pitch better, but I've seen nothing over the past two season from him to think he is a SEC starter and on Friday night?

They are playing at Kentucky, and Kentucky took two of three from Tennessee at home last weekend. I think Ole Miss will take two of three if they can hit the ball, but like us they have struggled to hit all year. If they lose the series, they are in trouble.

As of right now, I think we lose the series. Auburn ain't Vandy, South Carolina or Florida, but they are solid. They are ranked 26 in one poll, and I think they are 22 in another. I have no faith in Devin Jones ability to hold them under five runs, but I good about having Mitchell and Graveman coming out of the bullpen this weekend.

so I don't think we'll sweep anyone. I just hope we avoid losing the series to a bad team. It's going to be a rough year for us, and we won't get to Omaha ever unless Bianco hires himself a hitting coach, or unless we change head coaches. I'm betting it'll be the latter. Bianco won't make the change.

is that Devin's performance was more because the whole freaking team was intimidated by Vandy on Friday.

He was going up against one of the top pitchers in the country, and I think he was probably trying to be too fine.

His first four starts this year were very good. I think him being at home and the whole team being confident in him will result in a better performance from him. I hope.

Being a junior starter should not intimidate him BUT fact is he SHOULD be better at home BUT again that word "hope" is a bad sign. No way Jones should be a Friday night starter. What I'm "hoping" is our lefty on Sunday has his mojo back and we move everyone up a day and at worse case have Jones on Sunday. I ain't so sure Jones will stay in the Friday role much longer or even in the weekend rotation. Pressure is on his *** tonight for sure, so if he is intimidated "take him out" of the weekend rotation as a starter.
I know, I'm down on Jones but this pre-season stuff ain't the SEC and his last two years in the SEC suck.

I think it was the whole team that was intimidated.

I don't know that we'll be able to move Routt to Friday- at least not for a few weeks. He needs to be abe to throw 100 pitches before that idea is even entertained.

No doubt that Devin Jones has sucked the past two years in SEC play, but he is a much better pitcher this year. We'll see how he does tonight.

Stratton on Friday, Routt on Saturday and Jones or whoever on Sunday. To play with the big boys I think we should pitch our best on Friday, that is just me though.

Pitching your best guy on Sat. works best if you have a Friday night guy that is better than most of the other teams Friday night guys. That way, you're almost guaranteed to win at least one game. We don't have a Friday night guy that is clearly better than everyone else's Friday night guy, though.

While pitching your ace on Sat. is unconventional, what I don't understand is Auburn pitching their best guy on Sunday.
