I'm convinced that many of you believe that Stansbury is so masterful at recruiting, he orchestrated this whole thing. You guys believe he set this whole thing up and knew all along that USC wasnt going to sign him due to his issues. Thats why he stayed in touch with Sidney. Pure genius.

Lets not bring up that all coaches stay in touch with their top recruits until they actually sign with someone else, hoping to be able to sway them at the last second. But when stansbury does it, he is a genius.

Lets also not bring up the fact that he didnt want to go to Miss State. He wanted to be a Trojan. But the Trojans dont want him- too much baggage. But since that happened, we arent lucky- Stansbury is just that good.

Plain and simple- the "luck of Stansbury" has kicked in aGAIN. He works hard, is a good guy, and deserves the good things that happen to him. But he does seem to have some good luck.

Congrats Coach Rick

Seriously, the bottom line is the bottom line. And the bottom line is, Rick Stansbury got Lawrence Roberts to play the best 2 years of his career at MSU and he just got a commitment from Renardo Sidney. End of 17ing story.

BTW, congrats on the birth of your child the other day. Best of luck to both you and your wife.

Coach, tell me you are just baiting us. Please... Obviously, Sidney is a NCAA hot potato, but Stans had lain the groundwork for us to be there if something like this happened. When it fell through in LA, Sidney didn't go to Bama or Ole Miss, he came to Stans because of the time invested in relationship. I agree with you on so much else, but your irrational digs on Stans really undermine my good opinion of you. I have to believe you're just 17'ing with us on this. You can't really be that obtuse about this.

Huh? Are you arguing against yourself concerning Stans now?

You can say that Stansbury was lucky to get Sidney (if he commits) and Roberts, but the fact of the matter is, he is also unlucky that Johnathan Bender had the game of his life in the McDonald's AA game, and that he lost out on Travis Outlaw, and Monta Ellis just a couple of years before the NBA rules changed.

just because you "deserve to have good things to happen to you" doesnt mean they will. Hell, Ol Blew and CowStanza are proof of that.

This is another great stroke of luck plain and simple- and I hope he takes advantage of it and gets past the first weekend of the Tourney for a change.

it was pretty much common knowledge they were headed to the draft and foregoing college

Ellis was not a given to go the NBA earlier in his recruitment. You have to recruit a talent like that. That's why we got Roberts and apparently Sidney. By Stans being meticulous and following through no matter what is said by the pundits.

both of them intended to go the NBA route all along...Now then, they werent sure if they were going to have the chance, but make no mistake, they were looking for any excuse to declare for the draft

...Renardo Sydney was an MSU fan before he went to California. Rick kept in touch regularly with his parents and with him. His interest in USC and UCLA was due to his parents work and home there. He essentially was dropped by both California schools, so where did he go? Back to where his home and heart was.

but you've got to give credit where credit is due. Had this one year rule been in place in past years, State could be a pretty big powerhouse right about now considering we would have scored several huge, huge players. The guy can recruit and this just proves that further... It doesn't matter how you get a guy as long as you get him

we are his fallback plan...we are extremely luckyyyyy...his "heart" wanted to play for USC or UCLA- they just told him to 17 off though...

I'll take it and its great for us...but we are plan B and very fortunate

Yep, seems like Stans's is as lucky as a dog with two dicks. Otherwise he'd already have been gone.

Let's see, Baylor doesn't go thru a bizarre deal, or we don't get Roberts, and now this guy. Very odd deal, but heck...they both have/ had Mississippi connections.

I guess Stans' can thank his lucky stars...but he seems to be in the right place at the right time....WHO would have ever thought we could have gotten either one?

I guess Stans' know **** when others are just twittling their 17'n thumbs.

No, he isnt a genius. But he also isnt just dumb lucky.

You use 'luck' as if its an insult. But the reality is that coaches all over the country land recruits in a host of ways...just like Stans. So if all these guys(at midmajor, major, and elite teams) are getting lucky, then whats the point in even saying Stans is lucky? That just means he is then on par with a **** ton of other coaches.
So then wow, shocking insight from you.

Jeff Withey going to KU since Arizona has crashed. Wesley Johnson heading to 'Cuse. UK getting Cousins. St John's or Mayland getting Stephenson now that he isnt going to KU. Again speaking of KU, Xavier Henry and his brother going there instead of going to/staying at Memphis.

The F'n list goes on and on and on. Players committing somewhere, signing an LOI even, and heading elsewhere. Every damn year at schools all over the country, both regular and elite.

Its commonplace for all these coaches to be lucky...so why even call him that in the first place?

being his fallback plan. I'm sure he could probably go to UK right now to.

And if Outlaw and Ellis all intended to go to the NBA, why commit to State in the first place?
