...are over Saturday. Coach Cohen and the coaching staff are going to be having meetings with the players shortly afterward. This is the annual evaluation meeting. Just so folks are aware, some of the players will be told it is probably in their best interest to transfer where they have a better chance at future playing time. There are going to be some folks who will see friends or personal favorites asked to pursue their baseball dreams elsewhere. Every MSU baseball player who has ever put on the school colors deserves our respect and admiration. Some have had injuries, some didn't develop as well as they or we hoped, but they all deserve our thanks and respect. There may be a couple of players asked to come back who see their friends go and decide they may want to follow them. Coach Cohen is going to be honest in his evaluations, and there may be some hard feelings. Please do your best to be supportive in your posts of both the players and the coaching staff. It will be a trying time for everyone concerned. Thanks.

You want us to be supportive of "both the players and our coaching staff" in our posts. How in the hell does this help anything?

Wouldn't you rather us be honest?

Let's play a little round of who posted it:

Who posted "unless they start being MEN, they will be cut and their scholarships listed"?

What better way to show a young man respect than to question his manhood?

Thanks for the lecture.

this is not 17'ing Jeans's page...this is reality...and the reality is- alot of these guys were not SEC talent and definitely not State talent...

Most of us here support the staff- you dont have to worry about that

Thanks gene, I'll go with the coaching staff. They get all my support to do what is necessary to return MState baseball to where it should be.

asking people here to take it easy is retarded. i realize what you are saying and you have a point to a small extent but it is the internets and people are going to basically type what they want just short of the RebelBruiser-hoping-they-die Line.

the coaching staff will be supported for the most part. i bet the Lake won't like it too much though.

I'm ready to see half these players gone....I'm ready to win some 17ing games. If this class pans out, our basketball class works out, and we have another solid football class, we could have 3 hell of a teams in the big 3 sports.

apparently some folks don't buy into it, but there is absolutely no reason to not respect and honor what these kids have tried to do..yes, it is apparent that some of them will have to leave, but come on guys, they wanted to win just as bad or worse than we did, and they have given all they had to try to do that..it is not their fault that they just are not what we will have to have to compete as Coach Cohen will require..there is very little difference in the players ability to play in the SEC and those playing at the next level down...Coach is just going after those who can play at that level, and I have nothing but respect and thanks for those who will have to leave to make that possible..

I won't blame any of these players for wanting to wear the maroon and white. Do some of them have the talent to wear the uniform? The answer to that is no. The person I blame for them being in the uniform is Polk and Raffo.

A lot of these kids grew up wanting to play for MSU. They were given that chance. They took it. I'm sure they did their best, but their best just wasn't good enough. That is a hard reality to face.

But I respect them for their efforts and this is one fan who won't degrade them on a message board.

Having said that, I am 110% behind this coaching staff. This is the only way to get where we all want to be. After it's all over, I'll wish each player leaving the best of luck and thank him for his efforts.

Is that it is a business. Including MSU. In order for us to survive in the SEC, we have to have good players, and if a player is not up to par per SEC standards, or doesn't want to be a part of the program for whatever reason, we have to do what is best for MSU. If we have a good team, attendance is going to go up, which means money. People buy stuff at the ballgame, people stop and buy a t-shirt or whatever, and going to campus makes people more likely to donate to the University, and not just in athletics mind you.

If a player gets cut, I can certainly understand them and their family being upset. But they did get a chance to play at MSU, which is a great program, got to play in one of the premiere college baseball conferences in the country, and got to play for some good coaches.

The other thing here is that sometimes something "bad" like getting cut from a baseball team can turn out to be the best thing that happened for a lot of these players. Now they will be faced with decisions like "Maybe I'm not the next Roger Clemens" and go on to focus on academics and become great at whatever they do in the real world, maybe the transfer somewhere else and this was the wake up call that inspired them to work harder and they have a successful pro career. The bottom line is, they got their opportunity, and they were not able to take advantage of it. And when a player gets cut, he is going to be talked about because that's what fans do. It comes with the territory.

If a player gets cut, to me, it's all about business. I know that's harsh, but that's also reality. We can not afford to have any more 25 win seasons or whatever, and I do not want to go through a seven year rebuilding project. We can win now, and we should do everything within our power to do the very best that we can.

maybe they havent done all they could? You can damn well bet alot of them havent hit the weights like they should the last couple of years, I've seen that in person. I'm also willing to bet there are other things they havent done in order to become a champion and be the best that they can...

"there is very little difference in the players ability to play in the SEC and those playing at the next level down"

********...there is a very damn big difference...just because Delta St is good doesnt mean all D-II schools are.

when I hear someone say "The players want to win more than you ever do", and then I hear stories about how the players didn't want Cohen because he was going to "yell at them" and how some of them "only wanted to play for a coaching legend."

And DSU belongs in the Sun Belt, but your point is well taken. There's a big difference between a Sun Belt school and a SEC school to.

The rest of your post has some merit, but this I don't agree with at all. While we've had some really good people, we've also had some real d-bags come through our athletic programs. There are plenty that don't deserve respect or admiration.

You act like someone is dying, the fact is some of these guys do not have what it takes to play at this level. They need replaced with someone that has the talent to play in the SEC. "He sure plays with a lot of heart", ******** on that Polk thinking. We need more players like Clark, " I am a bad sum ***** and if you don't like it you can suck my balls". That's the attitude we need to bring in next year.
