After watching some of the tournament...

I have decided the SEC is so far behind in B-ball it may not ever be a conference that puts 6 or 7 teams in again. I know league strength goes up and down all across the country every year, but these mid-majors are consistently finding great ball players, the powerhouses look almost NBA level, and we (MSU and across the SEC) are struggling to find top talent. It's almost like the football thing reversed.

I do remember Florida winning back to back NCs a few years ago, but based on the last 2 years and probably the next few it doesn't look like the league is geared to being respected on the court. Thoughts?

that the SEC may not ever be good in basketball again. 2008 the SEC got 6 in and 2006 and 2007 the whole damn thing was one by an SEC team.

Maybe it was just one really bad year and that's it.

This whole "the SEC is perceived as being down because Kentucky is down" theory is ********. LSU dominated the SEC this year. Outside the league, their best regular season win was over a 17-15 Washington St. team. You can start at the top of the league and work your way down, and the story is pretty much the same. Very few decent OOC wins and plenty of embarassing losses.

It is a bold statement... maybe a stretch, but I think it is happening. There were ALOT of really good teams in the tournament. The gap is HUGE between the elite 8 and the SEC. It just seemed more evident this year than in years past. Looking to next year- who could play to the level that we saw in the elite 8 this year? I can't think of one team in the league that has that talent.

Who knows, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. Wouldn't be the first time on this board.

thats a true statement but thats like saying our basketball team was young. just an excuse. if we are putting a team on any playing surface i expect us to compete at the highest level. Florida puts together National Championships in Football and Basketball.. using this excuse, we're a football conference isn't good enough anymore.

I am honestly not sure the All-SEC team could have advanced to the Final Four.

G- Downey, Meeks, Calathes, Thornton
F - Patterson, T. Smith, T Mitchell
C - Varnado

Even if you added two of the bigs from the second team (Ogilvy, Chism, Barber and M Washington), that's still not a very imposing squad.

First- the SEC was young this year. Almost every team will be better.

UK will soon be back to "elite" program status.

Fla has missed on some recruits recently, but they won't be down long.

Pearl, even though I hate him, should have UT's program on the rise, and could turn their program into a program that regularly (1 out of 2 to 3 years) makes the sweet 16.

OM and State were young and should both be in the tournament next year.

LSU (at least based on one year) seems to have found a good coach, and I expect them to contend year in and year out for tournament invites.

Vandy and SC are usually solid, and are programs capable of making the tournament.

Who knows about UGA, Bama, Ark, and AU, but all have potential for long term achievement.
