The Ravens hired Trestman to be their new offensive coordinator. Now THAT is funny. Looks like Baltimore will be throwing a lot of passes when it's 3rd and 1.

The only thing is.....the Ravens have been pretty good when it comes to it's football decisions...has anyone drafted better than Baltimore over the years?

True Edgy. But Trestman will have to adjust his way of thinking if he expects Baltimore to score and win. In 2014 the Bears backs were third from the bottom in carries. If he does that in Baltimore don't expect them to win either.

Rushing attempts are mis-leading IMO. Forte led the bears in catches with 108. What's the difference between a 4 yard rush and a 4 yard pass to Forte?

Also, most offensive run plays now-a-days have a run pass option...how do we our big bad QB didn't just throw it all the time. Say what you want about our OC bad mouthing Cutler to the media but he was right. And all the QB "experts" (Young, Dilfer, Gruden) all say Cutler is brutal at making the right reads.

How could Trestman be GREAT at San Fran, Oakland and Chicago in 2013 and then be this bad this year? The guy needed a smart QB like he had with Steve Young, Rich Gannon and Josh McCown.

Trestman had his shortcomings as a HC but I think he's a great OC.

Colin:

I will just say this. If you look at the sixteen teams that ran the ball most per game in the NFL, nine of them made the playoffs and two of them are going to the Super Bowl. Philadelphia is in that top sixteen and they won 10 games.
Now, take a look at the bottom five teams that ran the ball the least and they had the worst records in football.

Moreover, in the top 16 category, four of those teams finished with records under .500. The bottom sixteen teams as far as frequency of running was less found ten of them with records of under .500.

Whether you agree or not the fact is, running the football still leads to wins in the NFL. That is the difference between a four yard pass play and a four yard run play.

Those stats are a little mis-leading. When your behind your going to throw the ball more. That's a factor as to why the bottom teams throw more.

Look at what the Patriots did last week against the Ravens. Their leading rusher had 7 yards and the only 3 rushes of the 2nd half were Brady scrambles or QB sneaks.

Forte had the 5th most carries in the league this past year and led the league in touches. He was 15th in the league in rushing yards per game and only had one rush of over 20 yards. Those stats, IMO, say the rushing game wasn't very good this year.

Actually Colin, your stats are misleading. I am talking team stats not individual stats. You said Forte had the 5th most carries in the league and that is true. He had 266 carries. Cutler was next with 39. But we both know those were from scrambling. Can you tell me who was next and how many he had without looking it up? I'll bet no one on the board can. It was Ka'Deem Carey with a whopping 36 carries for 158 yards. The point is not how many times Forte carried the ball, but how many times the Bears ran...as a team!

I don't know how many Bears games you watched, but there were plenty of games where they came out throwing the ball when the score was 0-0. There were plenty of times they threw with 3rd and 3 or less. Sometimes out of an empty backfield.

You mentioned the Patroits and Ravens. OK let's look at the Detroit Dallas game. On both of Detroits first two TD scoring drives in the 1st quarter they ran the ball down the throats of the Cowboys. Then on their next drive with the lead they ran 8 or 9 plays and didn't run it once. They ended up punting. They more or less abandoned the run and ended up scoring six more points. I felt like if they had contimued to mix the run and pass they would have won.

Now, we can each come up with examples to support what we believe and go back and forth.

BUT, I will make a bet with you. I will bet you the Bears run the ball more next year and I will also bet they win more games because of it and possibly make the playoffs. We can talk about defense in another thread at another time.

We can both agree that the Bears lacked a solid #2 back. That attributed to a lack of rush attempts. Bottom line, our QB sucks and I think the QB guys have accurately stated that he continues to make poor run and pass reads and checks.

I love the Bears hires. I am a bit nervous to see what Gates does with out Manning cause we all know Peyton was the OC where ever he played.

I am not a Cutler hater but his play has been bad at best and horrible at worst. I can tell you that if it doesn't improve in 2015 don't expect to see him in 2016. I also think that if the Bears could get the right deal to dump they would. But that isn't going to happen. We do have to deal in reality.

I suppose it is easy for me to say the Bears will improve right away because they couldn't go much further down. They need a lot of help on defense as well. Hopefully that improves because if it doesn't, having any QB won't matter.

Lots of work to do and I am looking forward to a much better 2015.

No Corey. I never saids "Cutler sucks." I said his play was bad at best and horrible at worst. I am not like the dopes who just repeat that line without looking at the big picture. The Bears had a LOT of peoblems in 2014.

I will reserve judgement till the end of next season or whenever he leaves, whichever comes last. Oh yeah, by the way in case no one told you 2014 is over!! Hahahaha!

Judgement until the end of next year? How long does the guy get to be determined if he's good or not?

About as long as Obama got for blaming everything on George Bush...oh wait, that's still going on.

Thank you Colin. I was hoping you got the joke and didn't take me seriously.
