As Jackie use to say.

I see in the prediction thread nobody gives State a chance. I understand because I don't either. Which leads me to this post.

There is was a new air of excitement. However, it looks like the Alabama game has deflated the fan base. I know Arkansas is not an exciting opponent. But no State fans are giving State a chance and nobody seems to care. Hell, last week some thought we would beat Bama. Maybe it is the rivalry vs. boring opponent aspect. I don't know. But I do know we changed coaches (thank God) but this feels like 2002-2006, and 2008 all over again. Here I sit with 4 tickets to a game. I know my team is going to lose. I don't look forward to even going to the game. I think I will exercise a MSU tradition this weekend that I hate. Wearing neutral colors to a football game so as to not be identified as a State fan. Therefore, I don't have to hear **** talking as I walk back to my vehicle after another MSU defeat. However, it will be waiting on me when I get back to the house, work Monday, and etc. I love being a State fan.

One other thing.....we have GOT to get the Arkansas game changed on the schedule. They absolutely get fired up for their last home game every year. Even LSU has struggled to beat them over the years. Then on the flip side (thanks Jackie) State definitely has a let down after Bama. Also, when the game is in Starkville, State fans are more concerned about hunting this time of year. We need to be playing a weak OOC FCS team between Bama and OM every year. I am so tired of losing to those bastards and so tired of the team and fans being flat. Almost feels like a pointless game to play every year.

Anyway, I have no idea what the spirit will be for the Egg Bowl. But it sure seems like last week was the final straw for this season.

....our schedule is the toughest in the land. We were in all but two games that we lost and should have won three of those. My baloon is getting larger.

we just aren't there yet. the moral victories didn't really affect my wool all that much. we may have played well but we have not learned how to win yet. arkansas is likely to drum us.

Things are always either great or terrible, never in between. The board was way too sheepish last week (I predicted a 23-10 loss to Bama for the record) and it's probably too negative this week. I do think we'll lose to Arkansas because we don't really match up with them all that well, it's on the road, and it's between our two biggest rival games. Still, unless we just get blown out these last two games, I'm optimistic about how we've played this season. I figured going in we'd have to be a very much improved team to match last year's 4-8 record and we'll at least match it if not beat it.

I just can't get fired up like I did at the beginning of the season. It's not necessarily the losses thats drumming my spirits. It's seeing Tyson Lee step on the field week after week that kills my hope. If ONLY we had a 17ing quarterback this season then this could be two final weeks of fun football. I'm not counting these last two games as losses. But I'm not predicting them as wins like I might have had we played better last weekend. The way Bama beat us was very deflating but Mullen has kept this team composed and Dixon is being the leader he needs to be. I feel confident in everyone on the team, even our secondary except Tyson Lee.

Yeah, not to pile on Lee. However, those are my thoughts as well. I had that same feeling last week as last year. I knew it would take a long run, pick 6, or special teams play for us to score. Sure, a lot of that was Bama's defense and Arkansas defense will not be that strong. However, it is so frustrating watching a game and knowing we will not move the ball enough to win. We will have to score 30+ points to win this week. There is no guarantee we could do that vs the Redwolves much less the Pigs. We desperately need a playmaker at QB next year.

At that point, I felt pretty damn deflated as a fan. We'd pissed away a scoring chance on the 1st play of the game and now we're having a TD taken from us either from a referee screwing or pure we-are-m-state luck of stepping out of bounds without being pushed. I knew to beat Bama, we'd need some big plays or big breaks and it was clear at that point that we weren't getting either. When we squander chances to score, we squander games.

During this week after the Bama game, I've come to feel like the Bama game is a microcasm of the season. We've squandered wins, wins that we needed to get to a bowl game. We still have a chance for a bowl game, but feeling confident about that is like feeling confident we'll overcome squandered points in a football game.

Selfishly, I'm glad the Arkansas game is away. I need a week to cheer up before the Egg Bowl. A W would sure do that.

And that's my Debbie Downer post for the week.

Drive into Bama territory, snap it into Lee's knees (which is hard to do).

Drive into Bama territory, Lee throws pick.

I didn't think we would win, but I expected a close game. The blowout caught me surprise a little.

Now could we beat Ark? sure. Our pass defense is actually not quite as bad as it seems. We've had one SEC team throw for over 200 yards against us and we've given up 6 passing td's. But we have lost to Ark many times when we were at least on par if not the better team. I guess nobody can see the reason to get optomistic now.

yes our last loss, and now we are down the tubes...
Bama's D was Oppressive, The Pigs D is what? last in the league.
Our offense can play against a not so great D, and maybe we can somehow get in the QB's face like OM did, and squeek out a win.
Optimistic yes, but we ain't playing Bama again this week or this year.

Hopeful anyway, I'm not yet giving up....sure as hell not gonna quit like the Dog's did agains OM last year.(Croom- Croomed himself with that one.)

we must figure out how to slow them down.

Just don't want to see the fans quiting, and us not expect the same from the team.

Is to play Relf. I know he's not great. But he's big and we need to grind it out with Arkansas if we're going to win. We need to run it, run it again, run it till it hurts, and then maybe surprise the hell out of them with a deep pass. There's nothing that Lee is gonna do for us that Relf can't. I've seen him throw some decent passes. I've seen him throw some stupid passes. At least play the guy that is almost a dual-threat.

Lee's either going to run it or make a bad throw that will be batted down or intercepted.

I thought most of the board had lost their mind last week predicting wins and close losses to Bama. Bama might be the best football team in the country right now. If they're not, they're damn close to it. Arkansas is much more manageable. And, as you pointed out, our offense has done OK against average to bad defenses. I do think we'll lose, but this is a game we have a legitimate chance to win if we play well.

Their pass defense is horrid, but primarily because of awful play from their safeties (so they've given up a lot of deep passes, but aren't as susceptible to being dinked and dunked). If y'all have a player who can stretch the field (Bumphis maybe? Haven't seen him play enough to know) it could be a really entertaining game.

I was in the process of looking up Arkansas's defensive statistics. The silver lining could be that people know their pass defense is horrid so they concentrate on that more.

look, it took a very good MSU round ball team to finally go up there and win and we've NEVER won in the state of Arkansas in football. Will this be the MSU football team that will finally pull that off? Its possible, but we've had much better teams that went up there and got whacked. Doesn't inspire much confidence that this particular team can pull of the feat given the talent shortcomings we have.
