It ludicrous to think an artist (even one that paints Bammer scenes) couldn't generate paintings of whatever he chooses. I can't see how an entity can try to trademark what can be reproduce in original art work.</p>

From what the judge said had there been an official Bama logo on the helmet the artist would not be allowed to paint that. I really think there should be some legal questions surrounding a PUBLIC school, paid for by tax dollars, being able to stop people from using their logos. I realize that is a can of worms but it seems to me that as a public University there should be some legal limits there.

Edit to add: Nice to see Bama being a douchebag to such a huge fan. Couldn't they try to work this out amicably?

He is painting a moment in a game. The uniforms and any logos (including opposing schools) are necessary but not the subject of the painting. If the subject of the artwork were the logo then Alabama would have a case, I think.

If the issue were the logo, then almost no paintings would ever be done. I don't think LSU would permit the Alabama artist to use their logo in a bad moment for LSU.
