they may be losing theirs. Since they have been raving and ranting about Auburn not hiring Gil Turner on Finebaum show and other media, this is a golden opportunity to show their high mindedness and willingness to do things the right way.

is either as a RB coach or some kind of administrator, and I bet he would gladly take either.

A la Orgeron? Though he did it sneaky like and got a partial one time payment negotiated the day before anyone knew he was going to work for the saints.

at those sumbitches.....no way in hell they would hire him as any kind of a coarch. I'm just pointing out the self righteous nature of all these pricks hollering about black coaches not being hired by other schools, then they fail to do it when they have a chance....well, we had our turn.

I understand Buffalo won some games like State did in 2007. If a few improbable breaks went the other way, its another pathetic season for Buffalo and nobody has ever heard of Turner Gill.

I'm not saying Gill is as poor of a coach as Croom. Just that the man behind the green curtain might not be a real wizard.

i'm willing to bet Gill builds on his success and ends up being a decent head coach...you can just hear the two men speak and tell which one is going to be more successful

among many is that he's at a place where he can learn how to coach, and make mistakes and learn from them. Croom was way in over his head at MSU, but if he had started out at a smaller school, like Buffalo, it would have been better for him.

and we are taking a risk from that perspective. It's a calculated risk, but one nonetheless.

And to be honest, he has already doing some things I don't particularly care for- like coaching ST's.

But I do think he will be better than Croom, and I promise I won't act like a moron saying that he should be fired if he wins at a clip similar to Stansbury.

special teams worth a **** was when our head coach coached them himself (thanks Jackie).. So I am okay with him coaching special teams.

punted to Derek Abney over and over and over until he set an NCAA record for punt returns for TD.

He also coached John Micheal Marlin.

I just want a HC that is focused on being the HC and not have to worry about anything extranuous. But, if it works out, it works out. I won't complain if we're winning games.

The Derek Abney debacle and John Michael Marlin were in the last few years of his tenure here, when he really just let everything go to ****. However, during our late '90s run we pretty much had our own version of "Beamer Ball;" our special teams were that good. Hell, when Kenzaki and the Dog Pound Rock were in their respective primes, it was a privilege to be on the kickoff team. And we had some really memorable FG/punt blocks. Besides Kentucky '07, I can't recall another time when a Croom-coached team blocked any punt or kick.

A simple graph would show you that Gill made improvements each year. Croom made no improvements until 2007 where only the record really improved.

ST. In fact looking at his resume, he has never coached them as far as I can tell. At least Jackie coached them at some point in time before coming here. I'm kind of puzzled as to why a guy who is an OC wants to coach them.

If we had another HC who wanted to also be the OC, that doesn't mean that he will be the next Steve Spurrier. In fact typically, a guy who wants to coach a certain aspect of the game usually ends up failing miserably at that aspect because they can't handle both HC and coordinator duties. See Coach O as HC and DC. So, even if we were VT caliber on ST under Jackie at one point in time, that doesn't necessarily mean that Mullen is going to be a great ST's coach.

Again, I don't understand why we can't find a coach that, you know, wants to be the HC like 95% of the teams in the country.

I was thinking the same thing 1msudawg. You beat me to it. Special Teams with a killer instinct. Could Mullen produce another Jeff Walker???
