Of course it was a real gun! I guess my explanation was a bit confusing. I was just saying it was announced as a "cold gun" because in SHOULD NOT have had cartridges with gunpowder -- i.e., no bullets or blanks. Only dummy bullets which do not fire, hence cold.

Yet somehow a live bullet got in the mix with the dummy bullets and got loaded. In a closeup shot, the dummies are made to look as authentic as possible. That made checking the gun a little more difficult. I don't own a .45 revolver, but I'd think you'd actually have to remove the cartridges from the chamber to see if they were indeed all dummies?
Cold can mean blanks as well.

But in any case.....the armorer should’ve checked it. The assistant should’ve checked it. Baldwin should’ve checked it. Whenever possible, no gun should point at someone....so, the victims shouldn’t have been there. There should be only inert firearms on sets. Just a huge cluster.

You know what's cold?

Alec Baldwin definitely has SOME culpability here. The last person with that gun in their hand should check it them selves. You never "take someone's word for it" if you're the one aiming it and pulling the trigger.

Let me put it this way: If it was a suicide scene, would you put a firearm to your head and pull that trigger w/o checking it, or would you make sure, WITH YOUR OWN EYES, before you did it?

Regardless of who fired the shot, was Alec Baldwin not the cheap *** corner cutting producer who forced them to go with cut rate people and created an unsafe environment?

Can't point the finger at the inexperienced armorer when you're the one who chose to go with inexperience over safety.

Damn good question.

“After Brandon died, it really became a very clear thing: Open the gun, look down the barrel, look in the cylinder, make sure,” Clooney said. “It’s a series of tragedies. But also, a lot of stupid mistakes.”

He also called out “the producers” for hiring inexperienced people. Clooney just established the duty and the breach for the inevitable settlement.

Alec Baldwin sued by family of cinematographer killed on set

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The family of a cinematographer shot and killed on the set of the film “Rust” sued Alec Baldwin and the movie’s producers Tuesday for wrongful death.

Lawyers for the family of Halyna Hutchins announced the lawsuit filed in New Mexico in the name of Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their son, Andros, at a Los Angeles news conference.

At least four other lawsuits have been filed over the shooting, but this is the first directly tied to one of the two people shot.

The “reckless conduct and cost-cutting measures” of Baldwin and the film’s producers “led to the death of Halyna Hutchins,” attorney Brian Panish said.

How much do you think they'll settle for?

I have not been in this thread so maybe it’s been answered.

Why isn’t he in jail?

The DA's still investigating and she's waiting on FBI results concerning Alec Baldwin's claim that he never pulled the trigger.

From today's NY Post:

Alec Baldwin may not have pulled trigger in deadly shooting on ‘Rust’ set: DA

"[Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies]'s test revealed that the hammer could have caused the live round to fire, however official results from an FBI analysis of the weapon are still pending."

At one base, at the end of a shift, you would turn your rifle into the armory. There was a 55 gallon drum filled with sand to use as a clearing barrel. The last thing you did was pull the trigger to show the supervisor your weapon was clear. The guy in front of me pulled the trigger. The sound echoed through the room and sand dust filled the air. There was a room full of witnesses, but the guy said, "I didn't Do that". He lost a stripe and the twenty year veteran supervising the clearing of the weapon got a letter of reprimand and lost a stripe.

Doesn't sound like regulation or a very smart way to demonstrate your gun is clear. 🤣

The reason for the clearing barrel full of sand was in case someone screwed up. They didn't want a weapon with a round chambered sent to the armory. If the guy had followed procedure, the round would have been ejected. It should not have been chambered in the first place. The soldier and the supervisor were careless. The supervisor wasn't the smartest guy around. Ill never forget his name, Wiley Craft.

That's interesting. It seems like showing the cleared chamber would be more effective and safer than dry firing the weapon.

That was part of the process. It just wasn't followed. The final safety measure was firing into a barrel of sand. At the same base, we had a guy shoot a mirror playing quick draw with his revolver.
