He'll never beat a good defense.

He should be able to win 1 game in the playoffs with that team. He's a poor man's Trent Dilfer minus the rings and way more talent on offense.<div>

Dilfer only has one ring, but I understand the gist of your argument.

Alex Smith is decent against bad defenses (see Saints), but likely will never do **** against above average defenses in playoff games. They still came very close to making a trip to the Superbowl and you can never say never, but I can't see Alex Smith ever being the starting QB for a Superbowl champion.

When your defense forces another team (especially one with a good offense like the Giants) to punt 12 times you have got to find a way to make a couple plays to win the game. Alex Smith more times than not will fail to make those plays against decent defensive teams.

Threw 2 TD, ran for over 40 yards --- easily offset when someone on special teams makes plays to lose the game...

You do have to consider that Smith has virtually no receivers to throw to. If Ted Ginn plays, especially at punt returner, then The Niners likely would be in the Super Bowl.

When your defense forces 12 punts and you are playing against a team with aless than stellardefense (27th in total D)you have got to do better than what he did last night. You can't go out there and complete less than 50% of your passes andgo 1 for 13 on 3rd down. He hit one long pass to Vernon Davis that accounted for most of his passing yards. That just normally doesn't cut it, you gotta be able to convert 3rd downs.

I can agree with some other posters that it wouldn't hurt if the guy actually had someone to throw to besides Vernon Davis. Who knows give him some weapons and he may turn out to be decent but for now I still say he is a below average quarterback.

That's right just one and that was Crabtree for 3 yards not all Smith. Very poor play by WRs they missed Quinn as the speed receiver. Need major upgrade. Look next yr for Dixon to get many more carries.

One had the winning TD taken out of his hands in the End zone. Looked lackluster on the catch to me.
