Word out of Petal is that the Blue Jays really, really want to sign Alford. They are supposedly offering him a deal that would allow him still to play college football. Don't know the details exactly.
There have been 5-6 different players I know of the past few years allowed to play college football while in minor league baseball. It would be CRAZY for Alford to turn that down....
The Jays were going to take Alford with their 1st round pick (the same one they took Davis with) and asked him if 2.6 would be enough to make him leave and he said no he was going to college no matter what. Apparently he really wants to play football, and Buckley is giving him nightly brain wash sessions.
The Blue Jays are going to allow him to play college football even if he signs with them... So if he turns that offer down, it's on Scott Berry...not the football staff...
Didn't the guy with the wierd name that was Brady Quinn's top receiver target @ Notre Dame also do it? I know he went high in the draft and in the pro's now...
I never really wanted him to be a contributor on our football team. I wanted him for baseball...but using a football scholly was nice because it opened up baseball scholarships. If he ever contributes at all on the football field I'll be surprised. He definitely won't ever be the starting QB. The only position I could see him contributing at is OLB or S....maybe as a packaged option on offense with him playing RB or slot.
Who is advising him? Does he even have a family?
I had heard he was living with his High School coach, Buckley, who is now the USM OC...
Alford will most likely never have a chance at that kind of payday the rest of his life.
