I am sure this has already been discussed on here but I have just gotten around to looking at the alignment plan starting next year. Dude, Region 4D is literally half of Virginia. I love it in terms of great matchups and possible rivalries being born, but man, you’re telling me Millbrook and Halifax are in the same region? That’s over four hours on a bus. Holy crap. It’s a great line-up in terms of brand names but that is crazy.

I’m glad Charlottesville is moving back up to C4. Love the old rivalry with EC Glass/GW and the 29 South foes. Now John Handley is in the region, so in theory a team like Charlottesville could travel a hundred miles south to Mecklenberg then a hundred miles north on 81 to Winchester in the same playoff run. Crazy!

Why are Sherando/Handley/James Wood/Liberty Bealton not in 4C? Heck even Orange County makes more sense in C. Just trying to wrap my head around it.

I know it’s overcrowded but Region B makes more sense for Halifax if you’re going to make them go to Winchester. Mecklenburg will be Class 5

I think the VHSL was trying to balance the number of teams in each Region. A few years ago Reg D was down to 8 teams. They added several from Reg B, but then a couple of those teams moved up or down. So this go around they added 5 from Reg C, and now Reg D has 15 teams over a wide geographic area. And now Reg A will only have 9 teams. It's a neverending impossible balancing act.

4 D will probably have to do sub regions. Mainly for cost of travel. I could see the northern teams playing each other for first 2 weeks in football and the south do the same thing. Then the winner of north plays winner of the south for Region title.
They can do the same thing for all other sports too
