After reading a recent thread, I was wondering how many football All-Staters were also All-State in other sports. How many can you name?
Eric Kumerow 1983 Oak Park Riverforest, All-State in both football and basketball and Football Player of the Year by the Chicago Tribune. That’s easy at Wilmington, just look at the state placers in wrestling then check the all state list for football. I can think of several candidates.
I know Vercelli was all state in Football, wrestling, and baseball multiple times. ***Edit: after about 10 minutes of searching I only found a few years of football all state lists. I found Nick Hawkins and John Van Duyne. Both were all state wrestlers as well as football. I can think of a few more that may qualify but not sure if they made it in football.***
I’d be willing to bet we haven’t ever had an all state basketball player.
There's a familiar voice we haven't heard too much from since Wrestling ended. My son Jake Bellizzi from Maine West class of 2019. All state in Football and Wrestling. Chicago Daily Herald Player of the year

HaHa I don't think any JCA fans hate Dergo, but we weren't particularly pleased watching him dismantle our Hilltoppers. That kid from Morris that JCA fans hate
Used to be a picture of Glen Van Duyne in the hallway as an all-state player in hoops. But that was a long time ago and I’ve only been inside the newer building once.
I think I remember seeing that in the old school. He’s gotta be the only one. They probably haven’t won 50 games total since 2000.
Since 1998, coaches have gone 39-109 in 6 years, 39-96 in 5 years, 48-67 in 4 years, 4-49 in 2, and 19-85 in 4...16-13 in 08-9, 19-8 in 09-10 for 35 wins in two years...They even won a Christmas Tournament in 15-16 despite winning only 7 games (not that any other school would write home about winning a 4 team tourney at Donovan with Southland Prep and Decatur Christian)...The 12-18 team in 12-13 would have been much better but for the 6'8" senior center being recruited by low D1 schools as a junior missing 90% of the season with injuries and academic problems...Drown's 4-49 was an utter waste - he would have been better off bringing up the sophs rather than playing the senior football stars (Southall & Zlomie) who didn't play hoops until after winning the state title as seniors...The leading returning scorer in 16-17 went out for wrestling instead for the first time as a senior (deciding after football ended), going to state at 220 and getting a team second place at state...
But on the two sport all-state list, how could you not mention Wildcat/Wildcat/Cardinal Damien Anderson, who was all-state in track...
And how about a 4 time all-stater as a senior? I believe Plano's Nick Nasti was Football All-State as a linebacker and fullback for 2 all-states, plus undefeated state heavyweight wrestling champ and 4th I believe in discus...

If memory serves me correctly, Vercelli was 3x all state in both baseball and wrestling, and twice all state in football. 8/12 ain’t bad.
