All we lack are DBs

I say that now. Next year, Robert Elliot will be our go-to RB.

Alas, Lee wasn't horrible under Croom. I knew he's be at least serviceable under Mullen.

I also refused to believe the OL'men under Croom were each as poor as the sum of the parts was. Had to be coaching. And it was. Today, the OL is the strength of the offense.

Bumphis is a playmaker. So is Berry. B-Mac is not, damn that Oxford turf monster. I get less impressed with Wilder each time I notice him.

This offense is better every week. The fumbles were a fluke. This loss doesn't sting much, as I expected no bowl game this year and outside chances of one were pretty much shot last week. I do take some excitement seeing this offense produce.

Mullen's backup kicker is twice as accurate as anything Croom could get on the field. Just damn.

What the hell is wrong with our secondary? I would really like to know our opponent's season completion percentage on throws over 15 yards. I bet it is well over 90%. Just throw it up there, our guys probably don't cover and if they are in position they won't make a play. Our DBs made one damn play all night and it was called for pass interference (BS call IMO).

I give us a B- on defending the option and an F- against the pass. The sad thing is we didn't play poorly against the pass because we were over-committed to the option. Was just can't defend anything in the air.

...Dixon is a beast in this offense. I think Stallworth is a playmaker, too (although we didn't see much of him tonight). Elliot has a big future, I think.

Lee is serviceable, but he's not SEC quality. You're right that we lack good DBs, but QB needs to be upgraded too.

Our O-line improvement shows what good coaching can do. The same thing could happen on the defensive side of the ball, if we had someone who could coach up the secondary.

Wilder has a couple of skillets for hands. He's been a disappointment.

Bumphis will be a good one. For the life of me, I don't understand why we don't put the ball in the hands of Berry more.

Cumulatively, our receivers are flat-out piss poor at blocking. If we had guys who could block out there, we'd be running a lot more screens to Bumphis and Berry.

We are getting better, but the defense took some lumps tonight and I suspect they'll take some lumps next week against Houston, too. I hope we don't hang on to Torbush too long.

....because we also got flagged for roughing the QB, too.

The most hideous secondary play of the night was third and goal from the 21. We had just batted an option pitch and forced third and very long. What happens? Paul Johnson picks on Zach Smith, and it goes for the TD. It was there anytime they wanted it.

Zach Smith makes Odell Bradley look like Fred Smoot.

but there's only so much he can do by himself. It's real easy to isolate one DB if the others are crap.

...let's put Wilder back there. He'll break up a pass or two. He sure as hell isn't catching any of them.

What did you guys think of Karlin Brown last night - he looked pretty good in late in the game. Maybe he's too small to block... but he's quick enough to get out there & stop a RB on those type plays.

He makes up for it with speed, quickness and aggressiveness. I think he is a good linebacker.

....that stopped a pitch to the outside deep behind the LOS? Just came out of nowhere with blazing speed and took the guy down. Don't know know who that was.

I turned to my Dad and said, now there's a guy playing his assignment.

Brown is quick. #50 -- Chris White is a major disappointment. Brown not only is quicker, he seems to be a better tackler. If fact, did White even make a tackle last night?

and 26 on the year, tied for 3rd on the team behind KJ and Chaney. Karlin Brown had two tackles last night and 4 on the year. Not to say that he isn't faster or a better tackler, but I don't think our starting three linebackers are going anywhere.
