I see in the news that OU will soon have a Texas License plate, along with OK State.
But the ones that jumped out at me were LSU AND AUBURN (????) have plates...
Now I see UF and UT (Tennessee) are getting plates too....Arkansas was being considered.

Whats it gonna take to get a MSU Plate? Sign me up....I know we got some big alumni clusters in Texas.

When Coach Mullen came and spoke last year the Houston Chapter, theysaid they were going to rasise money in order to get this taken care of... I believe all they had to do was raise a grand or so and pay a one time fee and then anyone that wants an MSU plate could get one...

As on Auburns Marketing website they list all 7 or so states you can buy a tag in..and note that when you buy one in Texas it goes to scholarships for Auburn bound Texas students.
I don't know how often they add new plate designs (they are changing the whole texas plate numbering from 6 to 7 and having a big auction at Cowboys stadium in Sept)
but this needs to be done already. Local alumni chapters and marketing need to get this done..and not just in texas.

out-of-state university plates. There are many states that do not allow them at all (*cough* Alabama), or only allow them if there is reciprocity.

Y'all better get that *** in gear before the OU plate **** hits the fan so politically hard that the Texas legislature changes the law.

I had lunch with a guy who is involved with the new MS tags coming out in 2011 and I brought this up -- F'ing Alabama won't allow MSU or UM plates to be promoted and sold in their state, yet we continue to let them be sold here. Why do we continue to bend over for them? Not only do they make money off of the people in our state (sidewalk alumni included), but it allows those two schools to keep their names and logos in front of all our students.

I asked him to bring Hoiley Borber up to speed about this. Miss'ippi is taking one up the poop shoot, in my humble estimation.

It would have been nice if they had them before I moved back to MS from TX recently. This is good to hear. I do think it is a bunch 'o junk that the state to the East doesn't have MSU/UM tags and MS has AL. I wouldn't be surprised if they never do have MSU/UM tags</p>

I think that it goes into the IHL Fund for MS.....At least that is what I was told by someone.<div>
</div><div>Also, can you ask that guy for an upgrade to the MSU tag? Keep the M-State, but replace the academic wordmark on the bottom with the athletic wordmark (i.e. on back of the MooTube). </div>

We should only issue tags for out-of-state schools if there's reciprocity. With the current budget crunch, I don't see it changing though.

I'm pretty sure they continue to sell vanity plates for out of state universities because they rely so heavily on the revenue generated by car tag sales. Remember the talk of a car tag price increase last year? They were going to jack up prices to offset the lost revenue they had been having and instead increased the state tax on cigarettes by 50 cents. I could be completely off, but from my small corner of the world that's how I interpret it.

1. How many Alabama alumni are there in MS? And what percentage of those buy the tags? My wild *** guess is that there aren't more than 1,000 total UA tags sold in the state, but even if there were 2,000, the total revenue would be - what - $70,000? And I do believe part of that money goes to either the state of AL or the school. So what does MS net out of it? $50,000 annually? That's not going to put a dent in our budget crisis any time soon.

2. This is my main point -- I can't really have a beef with selling LSU tags. Because (I think) Louisiana reciprocates. That's the part that pisses me off -- they think they are too good to have MS tags floating around the Heart of Dicksie.
