Alleghany will be the high school and Covington High will be the middle school. The two schools are combining so I’d guess they’d be class 3. Will this make the Cougars competitive?
They’ll be the Alleghany County Cougars. They’ll have the North Carolina Tar Heels colors (Carolina or Columbia blue/navy). I personally liked the Carolina blue/red color but in these days and times, if it isn’t broke, you best believe they’ll break it and try to fix it.Is that going to be their mascot? I know they're going with some generic copy/paste/paint-by-numbers name for their school but wasnt sure about the mascot.
If thats what they'll be then great. And yea those Alleghany unis were sharp, much like Powell Valleys always looked so good. They’ll be the Alleghany County Cougars. My guess is it will never happen. You’ve got two different local government entities. Also, I imagine any combination of governmental services would need to be approved by the General Assembly. How/who would fund? Remember, school operations are mostly funded by local tax dollars. Not state, not federal.Bath and Highland should go ahead and combine with them too. I know that it is crazy with how far some kids would have to go but, maybe they could just do a combination work from home and school. Come to school twice a week for practice.
I know, I just feel bad for the kids at Bath. They play hard and seem to have fun but...That sounds like it would be far too challenging an idea. They sure couldn't use one existing building or the other because some kids would have 70 miles or more to travel in the mountains in all kinds of weather. The only thing they could do would be to build a new school somewhere near the county line. Never happen..........
Yes but, I believe their school enrollment has only gone down over the last 10 years. Plus, I do not see any Phillips offspring playing there.Remember it wasn't always bad for Bath. If I am not mistaken they have two state championship trophies in their case and in one particular game, they came to Greenville and laid a major butt whooping on Riverheads.......and yes, that was during the Casto years! I also remember their girls making it to Richmond for the state volleyball championship maybe 10 years ago, but I don't remember if they won it. Last but not least they had a softball pitcher who starred at JMU and I believe is playing professionally now. So they have had their moments over the years.
