IF we win the title this year that would put Grayson, Marshall , Matt and Amile on a pretty short list of Duke players that have won 2 titles and yeah he could decide to leave but think about this. With the class we have coming in next year combined with the players we have returning next year we'll be a heavy favorite to win the title, so if he comes back then he could be on a very short list of players that won 3 titles while they were in college. I personally think he'll be back whether we win the title this year or not.He will be gone just like tyus. We get to the Dance and the freshman blow up again Allen has good run and we win the title again. Allen says 2 titles in a row and he is gone. Perfect ending
I love Grayson and he is one hell of a player. I'm curious to see what the scouts thought of his 2nd half vs Louisville... When he tried driving the ball in the second half against the length of Egyptian center from Louisville he struggled to get the ball to the rim... Trust me it's one game and I'm not knocking him at all, but I do wonder if scouts will take a look at that more. Man I hope he stays at least one more year!
He may have averaged 20 against us they way they shot two games of the three...
I agree with this, his driving isn't getting him drafted, his quick release, form, and solid size make him an option at the 2.Meh. In the league he'll be taking far more jumpers anyway. They may use it as TV cannon fodder, but it won't mean anything in actual discussions.
Some may argue Jackson over Thornton, but there's a lot of water to flow under the bridge until then. PS: Welcome. It would be foolish for Grayson to come back IMHO. He won't have a chance to improve his stock sharing court time with Giles, Tatum, Jackson, Thornton and Amile. His scoring, rebounding and assist numbers will all drop dramatically.
He will ride off into the sunset as a lottery pick this year and end up playing for Brad Stevens and the Celtics.
My projected starting lineup for next year is as follows:
PG: Thornton
SG: Kennard
SF: Tatum
PF: Jefferson
C: Giles
Perhaps, but I'm confident that Thornton will improve enough over the next year where he'll be the clear cut starter and we'll have Jackson backing him up off the bench.Willcampbell said:Some may argue Jackson over Thornton, but there's a lot of water to flow under the bridge until then. Yeah, I can't see any way that Matt doesn't start next season. He'll be the lone senior and we will have a bunch of freshmen and sophomores that will lean heavily on him on defense.I'd also be surprised if Matt isn't starting. Not saying anything about talent, just senior leadership.

Yeah, I think he is a solid late first rounder, 25ish or so. He's not going anywhere though.I looked up a bunch of mocks drafts today and he was listed at 16 in one and I saw about three with him not ranked in the first 30
His best draft position is this year or senior IMO. Next year is too loaded with early exits and guards. I feel he goes this year or stays all 4.
I think he will go this year.
That said, contrary to this and others, I don't think the talent coming next year would necessarily hurt his draft stock. Those players will be freshman and no matter how highly ranked we just don't know how they will perform. Chase Jeter was ranked 16th on Rivals, 11th on ESPN; Thornton went to 14th on Rivals when he entered; and even look at Ingram. Great player but it's taken him a while to get things going and the lack of depth has also helped to force K to lean on him more. But, Grayson was the man early and still has done very well even since Ingram and Kennard have improved. Frank Jackson is borderline top 10 but he may not wind up jumping in right away.
K would still rely on Grayson and give him free reign. K does this with a number of players. If you earn your stripes you get an advantage. Were Grayson to stay, his scoring might dip some but I suspect it would still be a short lineup (if Amile comes back this year we lose him and Plumlee and Ingram). Jeter will still struggle to get minutes.
Grayson could still very well be the slashing scorer and leader on the team. And, he might take better shots and become a more efficient player and if Duke goes deeper in the tournament and Grayson has some big games, his stock will still be just as high. So, having more talent around him doesn't necessarily diminish his stock.
Only if his play dipped would it diminish.
All that said, I think he'll go for sure this year if he feels confident he'll be a first round pick b/c that's guaranteed money for 4-5 years. But, if it's borderline 1st/2nd then that's a risk and he may stay.
