That's good stuff. State needs some people making it big time in golf.

Sounds like she has the talent to make it.

Alex Rocha.

She realistically could be a beast on the LPGA. I hope she makes it. I just wish MSU didn't underperform like it did as a golf school in general. Every kid in Mississippi grew up playing golf almost, and MSU is home to one of the best turf programs in the country AND right next to one of the better golf courses in the south. No excuse for the state course to be the ******** it is. Sometimes I think the PGA program hurts too... the best golfers on campus are ineligible to play.

This a fine young lady

very smart and articulate and can whoop all our asses in golf/pickup basketball/HORSE.

Took AP Calculus in h/s when she really didn't need to but wanted the challenge.

May I also add, she rarely competed vs girls in HS, she always used the boys' tees.

There's another girl coming around that may be as good- can't think of her name right now, think she's from Greenwood.

Somebody told me State's course was in bad shape, What happened? When I was there it was cart path only, there wasn't a whole lot of drinking on the course, because most people i know walked. You didn't have dumbasses getting hammered, and riding carts on the greens. The layout was easy to take advantage of sure, but whenever they had tip and tuck tournaments the pin placements could wreak havoc on even the single handicaps.

Jim Gallagher's kin (niece maybe? Hell, it may be his daughter). She's still in HS I think. And Bama's lady golf program is after her, along with several other big time SEC programs.

If you're implying that the PGM students are the best players on campus, you couldn't be further off base. Also, there's nothing that prevents the PGM students from being on the golf team...except their own lack of ability.

That's Jim's third child. Her older sister, Mary Langdon, will be a senior on State's golf team this year. Kathleen might be the best player in the family when it's all said and done. By the way, she beat Ally this year to win the Women's State Am at Old Waverly. She's 16 and being recruited by everybody.

You sir couldn't be further off base. PGM students are ineligible to play NCAA golf because getting their PGA card is part of the curriculum. And all of them? No. But I bet you the top 5 guys in the PGM program could outperform the bottom half of the golf team.

And I don't know what happened to the state course either. When I went up there in high school it was really nice, but all 4 years I was in college it was a dump. The greens were the worst part. Like all things it probably came down to money, and I would guess that a public golf course tied to a university would be the first thing to get its funding cut.

Not really pertinent to this thread, and

Every kid in Mississippi grew up playing golf almost,

I'm pretty sure I know what point you were making, but this is just very wrong and a very OM/elitist way of thinking.

I certainly didn't grow up playing golf or even knowing anyone who really did.

Best I can tell from the website ...

Being part of the PGA Golf Management program does NOT seem to impact eligibility to play NCAA Golf. They become PGA members after they graduate.

Below is from the PARS Site which is a Parental Assistance Referral Service to help students who wish to attend college and compete in collegiate golf and info on athletic scholarships and financial aid including eligibility.

Link ... http://www.parsjuniorgolf.com/about_us.html

The PGA Golf Management University Program, a 4.5- to 5-year college curriculum for aspiring PGA Professionals is offered at 20 PGA accredited universities nationwide. The program provides students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the golf industry through extensive classroom studies and internship experience. When you graduate, in addition to your college degree, you become a PGA member with 100 percent job placement. For additional information about the PGA Golf Management University Program, click here.

PGM students are still college students, not professionals. They are earning points toward their PGA membership, but they are NOT apprentices and are therefore not professionals. When I was on the team, we had a PGM students on the team that went on to work at Class A PGA Professionals.

This is from the PGA website, "Students in the university program are not considered apprentices because they are not required to be eligibly employed as they complete their course work."

If the top five PGM students were as good as players on the golf team, they would be on the golf team. All they have to do is walk-on or earn a scholarship.

You're right. I sent one a text and he said people don't do it because it's discouraged and it requires a lot of time. I was under the impression they weren't allowed. Well...

Yeah. Kathleen maybe? I can't remember.

EDIT: I see someone who knows more answered. Thanks. I knew she beat Ally, and I worked a tournament she was in this year. She's pretty good.
