I don't watch these type of shows but what do you win?

To go through with something like that I better get a **** ton of money or never have to pay taxes again or something.

And all I have to do is live in the woods or be a bum for a while. ****... Sign me up.

Well, when you say all you'd have to do is live in the woods, you make it sound as if it would be easy. From all I can tell, it is far from easy.

Each contestant is located in the woods in a remote location as winter is setting in. Each gets cold weather gear plus 10 survival items of their choosing. They must have good knowledge of hunting, fishing, trapping, primitive fire starting, shelter building, and which plants are edible and which are not. Since winter is approaching they have short amounts of daylight. So in 9 or 10 hours of light they spend the entire time looking for food, collecting and purifying water, improving their shelter, and gathering firewood.

Most seem to tap out from mental/emotional breakdown. Loneliness, fatigue, hunger, despair, cold weather, longing to be reunited with spouse and kids. All those things wear a person down. Plus the mental challenge of outlasting 9 other contestants. Each has no idea who has tapped out and who remains. Season 1 winner made it 56 days, season 2 winner 66 days.

It appears to be an extremely difficult thing to do.

I enjoy the show. I'm far too old and fat, and lazy to attempt such a thing, but I admire them for their skills and mental fortitude.
I'd crack like the season 2 guy that heard the bear 20 minutes after being dropped off.

I know why this thread died so quickly. Season 3 sucks. I haven't kept up with it like the first two seasons. Watching tonight and it's a bore. None of the contestants are remotely interesting.

5 people going 70+ days is crazy. 3 of them women. This is by far the strongest group yet and it isn't even close.
Is it the strongest group or has it just been the easiest conditions? It doesn't seem near as harsh. They need to introduce grizzly bears to Patagonia.

I agree that this hasn't been the most compelling season.

Conditions appear to be far easier in season 3. First couple seasons saw 2 or 3 folks tap due to constant bear sightings and bears sniffing around their tents at night. First couple seasons saw heavy rains that lasted 24 to 48 hours at a time (wet fire wood, can't leave the shelter to forage or fish), and constant winds that made it feel far colder. Season 3 we watched everyone find flat cleared ground to set up a shelter, pretty calm weather, and few if any predator animals.

It's interesting to see how the participants bodies change due to being malnourished. Watching people catch & eat fish is yawn.

Stay outside in your backyard for 2 days then come back and tell me 70 days in Patagonia is easy. It is a remarkable accomplishment despite the lack of intimidating predators that scare off the pansies. This still is easily a much stronger group from top to bottom that the other two. No question about it.

There are probably 3-4 in this group that would have won the other two seasons. Season 2 for sure.

Ill be applying for the next season. I once worked 70 days in a row at a manufacturing plant. This should be easy. Masturbation should get me through 4-5 weeks easy.

Didn't watch final episode yet, will do so Sunday.

This group top to bottom is the toughest, but easier conditions. I'm sure as the popularity of the show gets bigger and more people apply, the contestants will get tougher. The guy they pulled, it was fascinating to watch him brag about his food but not eat it and he could barely walk.

The mental challenge that they go throw is really interesting to see how they respond to it.

Without giving anything away, I thought the reunion show that aired after the final episode was pretty good.

Yeah, I've got that recorded as well.

I have zero skills to do anything like that, but I would love to try it after going through some sort of boot camp that would give me a few skills. Ummmm....maybe a 30 days? I like to think I'm a little more mentally tough.

Can we discuss spider bite chick giving up yet or did I just spoil it for someone...
She seemed too happy. Her serotonin levels must be off the charts. Most people have a drop in serotonin when being starved and under stress. She could have easily won. Not sure if she lost any weight.

Callie, the spider bite chick had a great ***. My goodness.

I think I could do a month out there. After that, who knows. I don't think anyone can say for sure until you've done it. So much of it is mental and how you will react to isolation and near starvation. No way to test your body against that until you do it.

Great show. The shelters that they built were amazing! The staff that the winner made was awesome. I was surprised when Callie quit, she was pretty damn awesome.

She quit right after a huge meal, too. It sucked as I wanted her to win or at least last long enough for a spider to bite her on the *** again so she could flash it some more.
