Today I watched South Panola's week 1 matchup against West Point and Tony Conner is an absolute stud. He flies around the field and is a tackling machine. He's a big hitter but he also is really good at tackling in space. In talking with South Panola coach Lance Pogue today, he thinks Conner may be the best player to come through South Panola and he's been starting since his freshman year.
Also from Coach Pogue, he said that Conner hasn't ever missed a game or a practice and he's a guy that is at ever lift, every summer workout.
That no-nonsense attitude carries over to his recruitment as he's a guy that hasn't talked hardly at all about his recruitment. Coach Pogue said that he thinks it's a race between Bama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and LSU (no big surprise there) and that he won't announce anything until the Under Armour All-American game. While we have really made a push to get in on the Conner sweepstakes, my sources are telling me the race does not include us. There was hope that contacts made while EJ was still here might carry over, but apparently not.
Really looking forward to seeing Conner play Friday night. On film against West Point he reminded me a little big of a longer Rod Woodson (Olive Branch product, former bama signee). I know Woodson didn't pan out at Alabama but if you remember his high school film, it was unreal.
I'm really anxious to see Conner this Friday because Hoover is a major contrast to West Point. WP was shoe to shoe, downhill run game, Hoover spreads you out and throws it around so it will be a nice test for Conner and SP.
