Does Adidas get it right this year? What were your favorite's? The two I really liked where the 1962 throw backs, and the black and whites we wore against UCLA.

Im generally a huge fan of doing this. I kinda hope we move to Nike soon so we get some really sweet alternate uniforms; I don't think the Adidas ones have been terrible (those UCLA ones were great, and the black ones were pretty cool), but they aren't super good, either.

The Throwback uniforms were incredible. Best idea yet!

I wonder when they will release the images of this years alt. uniforms.

It has to be soon. Last year it was like July 23rd. On the Nebraska Equipment Twitter Account, all of the Adidas boxes are starting to roll in, so I imagine they make the announcement soon.

Those have been the only two alternates I have really liked. I'm definitely not one of the "no alternates because tradition" guys, but Adidas just hasn't impressed me with most of their alt designs for NU, or any other school for that matter. Most of them seem like they were designed by a 12 year old kid making superhero costumes, i.e. the terrible iterations of all-reds they have tried a couple times. Would love to see what Nike could do with the unis if given a chance.

I don't actually hate the all-whites, but I think it's best we avoid them based on our current record while wearing them.

I would love to pen an open letter to Mike Riley and Shawn Eichorst requesting the 1962 uniform be worn for all Homecoming Games in the foreseeable future. It could be a nod to the great history we have here at Nebraska.

I love the idea of cutting edge futuristic uniform designs for a game each season.

I hate what Adidas has done. There have been some really cool designs on other teams. I've seen cool uniforms for Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan.

The key isn't to vomit design all over a uniform but instead to make minor adjustments that give a fresh look.

I hold out hope, but have low expectations Adidas can deliver.

I speculate that alternative uniforms will be for the Oregon game and since Adidas can't come up with anything original, the Huskers wear green for envy of the ducks recent football success!

I agree completely. I think Nike in particular tends to do a really good job with alternate uniform designs. Under Armour is like Adidas to me, much more hit and miss, but they are at least trying to do cool things. I too think we should be doing a really cool alternate design once a year, and I also wouldn't mind if the team decided to use the throwback uniforms for the Homecoming game as well; remember, the whole reason why teams do this now is to attract recruits and garner attention for looking flashy or interesting. We have great tradition here, and we also need to appeal to the newest trends.

Our uniform design as-is is already one of the classics of the game; I say do one weird one and one throwback per year (Michigan did this against Michigan State a few years ago; the Spartans wore a really cool Nike alternate uniform, and the Wolverines wore 70's throwback ones, the ones with the bee stripes on the shoulders).

Lastly, I read somewhere that our contract with Adidas may expire next year (or maybe 2018). The article pointed out that we don't get nearly as much money from Adidas as we would from Nike or Under Armour (I think it was pointing out that UCLA just switched to UA and gained a lot more money for doing it). I say we ink a Nike deal, open a Nike store in Lincoln, and get access to the best the game has to offer.

Just saying.

I hadn't connected the dots before, but what you mentioned at the end about a Nike store makes me wonder if that's where the whole Suh development of the old Nebraska Bookstore went awry. Do you think Adidas strongly hinted/encouraged the University to not go forth with the deal due to the millions they pay for the rights? Maybe everyone else has already connected those dots, but it seems logical to me.

Strongly hinted? Try invoke some kind of crazy non-compete clause or something in their contract that says they can't have a rival store selling rival gear within X yards of the bookstore. On top of that, allowing the current shop to be re-done as a Nike store would have essentially been impossible (because Nebraska gear right now has to be Adidas). So yes, absolutely, that's where that went awry. Hopefully we can rectify that mistake soon. Perlman was a real dumbass when it came to this in particular; ever since Oregon, Nike has been offering more money, better gear, and cooler looking alternate uniforms to teams that sign up with them. It's a no-brainer.

For some reason, I'm thinking the Board of Regents received permission from Adidas. Nike didn't offer Nebraska more money than Adidas, and it was Tom Osborne who was responsible for our last contract. Perlman and the Board of Regents approved it.

Not sticking up for Adidas because Ive always liked Nike, but they have always offered Nebraska more money. Adidas has also giving us a full time shoe rep that customizes shoes for each athletes individual needs. I'm pretty sure we are the only team with this luxury.

Difference between alternate and throw back uniforms.

Don't mind the 1962 uni's but I wouldn't want them for all our home games.Bring back the Varsity strips like the 1968-1973 years.

I'd like to see a red Metallic helmet with a wide white strip. The red flat helmet we wore against Illinois with the silver duck tape were the worst one's we have had so how about a legit red helmet this time. And those uni's we wore against UCLA wasn't much difference from our original uniforms except for the lame black uniforms and strips on the pants and helmet.

the 1962 throwbacks were great.. all the others, including the surrender whites have been just horrible
They are the best uniforms period in my mind. Not as throwbacks but as the jerseys we wore from 61 until 68 when modern Nebraska football resurfaced and became as great as it had been since the Twenties and Thirties up to the Rose Bowl v Stanford

Yeah it would be cool if the equipment department came out with a throwback series. Go back and look at some of the old school cool unis, and bring them out. We have a few cool throwbacks I'd like to see.
