I copied and pasted DiamondReb's post from NAFOOM. Although, if BDJ.com is correct, the video that is posted is a NCAA violation.

Yancy comes out in his camp blog yesterday saying that Robert Johnson was pressured into committing Friday at the MSU camp and that it was a turn off to him and that he won't be taking an official visit to MSU now.

Robertson responded that Yancy was flat out lying and that he was not pressured to commit and that he thought State was in the lead for his services.

Then today Yancy puts out the video confirming everything he said. He said plainly that he would only be taking one instate official visit and that would be to Ole Miss.

Rosebowl removes his post.

If true this all stinks, but the question for the board is what do you think about pressuring players to commit. I'm sure this guy was a big target on our board and maybe this blows over. But when you put on a big summer camp don't you want the coaching staff attempting to apply some pressure to commit? Granted there is a fine line there, but I think when you have the recent reputation of MSU football you've got to let kids know they are important and you'd really like to get their commitment to help build a solid class around them.

of pressuring for a commit. It would be a turnoff to me if I were in that position. The way these kids flip and flop, what good does it do anyway? Granted, I'm not sure how all of that stuff works these days b/c you read about it happening at every school. It seems strange though that with hughes, who is supposed to be a great recruiter, and has a son on johnson's team, that johnson is so quick to dismiss us. I am having flashbacks of the oak grove linebacker a few years ago.

Florida, USC, and the like can pressure all they want. They know they have a backload of all-Americans waiting to sign with them. We, on the other hand, really have to glad hand the top prospects, which can backfire if you hold a spot, but it's how things are for us right now.

If he's a big time prospect, you don't pressure him. You let him know he's got a spot if he wants it.

If he is marginal or we have other players of equal value then you let him that we really want him, but we only have 1 or 2 spots at his position so we need to know something soon. I guess you could call that pressure.

because if you're MSU, you can't just hold spots, because once it's too late, you're going to end up with a bunch of Henig's and Ty Evan's. The sooner you know who is going to be coming, the better.

Also, bear in mind we're dealing with teenagers here. A lot of times you need to be strict with something that is serious business- and I think would fall into that category- and let them know, "Hey, we're not messing around, if you want to come here, let us know."

go watch the master spinner in action. Yancy words all of his questions to put State in a bad light. It's actually pretty funny.

that he was flat out lying? R Johnson did say he was visiting UM and the other schools would be out of state in the interview. However the pressure comments were over blown.

I just watched the video. Wow, I feel sorry for these kids that have to talk to Yancy and people like him. If Yancy had any ounce of credibilty left it is gone. His leading and framing of questions in an attempt to get a certain answer are hilarious. It's clear that none of these guys are legitimate reporters.

Johnson clearly said in the end of the interview that he was going to visit "State, Florida State, Louisville..."
He just got confused in the end when asked about "are you taking only one in state visit?"

I think you have to pick and choose which prospects to put pressure on. If you have guys that you think are as good or better waiting as strong possibilities at his position, you can put pressure on a kid to say he needs to take his spot if he wants one.

If he's one of your top guy's though, and you don't have some back ups that you like just as much, you might need to wait. I'm not that familiar with the prospects this year, so I can't tell you who this Johnson kid is or what position he plays, so I have no clue if it was a bad idea to pressure this one recruit.

It is amazing after you watch the interview and read the article that it was from the same conversation. I don't know if Yancy just can't hear what these kids say when he talks to them or he just hears what he wants to hear. These kids are extremely nervous when giving these interviews and get easily confused. They aren't used to the attention or being interviewed. The first team he mentioned was MSU when asked who he was interested in. Then Yancy said "so you are taking only one instate visit this year" and Johnson said "yes". It could have just as easily been MSU he was talking about visiting in state as it is Ole Miss. The whole deal about Mullen pressuring him to commit was also a joke. Johnson didn't say that even though Porter tried as hard as he could to get him to.

Watching this video shows just how little you should put into anything that Yancy Porter writes.

Good stuff from Paul Jones.
During his stay at Mississippi State, Johnson noted that the Bulldogs once again tried to get him on board for the 2010 class.</p>

But that was to be expected, said Johnson, and it was nothing he hasn't heard before from the MSU staff.</p>

"Every time I talk to Mississippi State or visit them they talk about me committing," said Johnson. "But it never bothers me. It just shows me how bad they want me and that makes me feel good. It is about them showing me the love."</p>
But as it's been for most of his recruitment, Johnson's list of favorites has remained the same.</p>

"It's still the in-state schools with me and some out-of-state schools," said Johnson. "I am also looking at schools like Louisville, Kentucky, West Virginia and Florida State."</p>

just tell the reporter what they want to hear?

I have no doubt that Johnson will tell a MSU writer that "MSU is showing him the love", and the same guy tells an Ole Miss writer that "I hated the pressure they put on me to commit".

Also, both writers ask leading questions that make their school look good, because they have a financial interest in the answer.

I used to get worked up over recruiting, and though I still follow it, my favorite articles are those written by guys that cover Baylor, Texas Tech, or done by Allen Wallace. You actually can tell what the prospect may actually be thinking about a particular school.
