So i have been watching the reaction to treadwells injury by mostly tsun fans and mostly on fb. I began to see a trend and did some light digging. Heres what im wondering if anyone else has noticed... not 1 of my "friends", 1 of which is closely connected to the school, or family members or anyone mentioned anything when denzel goes down. But they are all acting as if Treadwell died or is near death. Why? Ive only 1 conclusion. They dont really care about the kid at all. Its the fact that his loss was their team's loss vs au and likely more losses to come via losing their biggest offensive threat......its either that or they just hate denzel and the other guy they lost for the yr. Do they even know that dudes name?

I always thought the only reason Denzel was ever offered was to get his brother. I.E. in their minds he`s expendable.

I get the feeling most of them are trolling for sympathy because they know their championship hopes just went down the toilet with that Auburn loss and the Treadwell injury lets them grasp onto the spotlight for a few more precious seconds.
You didn't see us groaning about losing our top receiver BEFORE the Auburn game.

You're dead on. This is all about THEM, not Treadwell. They are sad and despondent because his injury likely ends their playoff/championship dreams. The comparison to Denzel makes it clear that most of them don't care about Treadwell, but about the impact of his injury on their season.

Treadwell is probably the most popular player on their team. I have blue hair

lady facebook friends that love the guy. He has a good personality, plays hard and hasn't beat up a bunch of frat boys that I know of.

You aren't alone, but you're wrong.

I think every fan base would react the same given the scenario. Talented player. Gruesome injury while snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Basically eliminated from SEC and playoff contention. It's pretty natural for that to get a ton of attention.

...about something so bad you wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy. That is just about the significance of that one play Sat nite. As everyone else has said, a lot of the sympathy for Treadwell is because of the significance of the play. On this one play the bears lost perhaps their best player, the SECW, and hopes for a playoff berth. POOF! gone. Not only that but it was so agonizingly close. The guy had 70% of his body in the endzone and due to his injury fumbled it 6 inches and maybe 10 milliseconds before scoring. He then had to endure being carted off the field at the exact moment the officials announced that he had fumbled prior to scoring. With the entire country watching live and on replay you could see the physical pain and mental pain on his face as he was being carted off.

Had he gotten injured limped off the field and then Monday found out he tore an ACL the response would not be nearly as dramatic.

It was a cruel Ending to the game. If we had lost in that manner, I muxh imagine it'd be the same kind of reaction. It was gut wrenching and excruciatingly heartbroken.

With all that said... I'll extend some courtesy and respect because that's not the way anyone should lose a game, but it happens. I don't feel sorry for them and I don't feel sympathy for them... But I'm not gonna rub this loss in their face. I'm more worried about our own team and the remainder of our season.

Completely agree. I always enjoy seeing them lose, but I actually caught myself almost feeling sorry for them after that. It would have been a horrible way to lose anyway, but you throw in that injury to a player like Treadwell and that is absolutely gut wrenching.

No doubt Treadwell is a lot easier guy to like than Denzel is. Not trying to turn this into the other thread that got locked, but even the most diehard Bear fans I know will admit that Denzel is a thug because of his actions. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Treadwell other than he got paid to sign with Mississippi (which, face it, a lot of players got paid to sign where they signed). Also, Treadwell's injury was one of the most dramatic ones you'll ever see, not just because of the visual impact, but also because it caused a fumble inside the one that cost them the go-ahead TD, and the fact most people in the stands didn't even realize the play was being reviewed so they thought they had a TD for 5 minutes before it was taken off the board.

Very simple. They lost so I was happy. I do not wish injuries on anyone but they happen in football for sure.

This is the first time I can remember the "prayers for ___" going around. Don't recall those type of things circulating the internets when B-Mac broke his leg on the same field or Prothro at Alabama vs Florida. So yeah the reactions were because it was their best player & helps deflect attention away from their season going down the drain.

Also his recovery time is less than a torn ACL. So there's that.

Exactly this....

They lost. That makes me happy. It sucks that the kid broke his leg. Football is a violent game. It happens.

Would it have been more devastating, had he scored the touchdown, still got injured, and then they let AU drive down and score the winning touchdown? They did have over 1:30 on the clock, and just had to have a FG to tie, TD to win.

On your last line of broken leg vs. ACL and recovery time: It is very hard to come back from a break like that. I am not a doctor, but it is rare. There is a reason the bball player at Louisville did not come back and start after his break and there is a reason that all world receiver from Southern did not come back after his break. The reality for Treadwell personally is that it will be difficult to return to top form which could cost his a significant amount of money, not to mention a storied NFL career. I would imagine this is a very difficult situation for him. And that is not even considering the monumental game situation for UM.

Didn't he also dislocate his ankle in addition to the broken leg?

That's a pretty devastating injury. 4 months sounds optimistic to me.

I saw on facebook today someone mention feeling sorry for the Auburn player that hurt Treadwell accidentally. Just imagining what the player was going through for hurting Treadwell. They then linked a Brad Gaines article who was the player that hit Chucky Mullins.

Yes it is. I feel bad for Treadwell cause his leg may be 17ed up for good. But there's a lot of players that wind up like that. We all joke about Tony Romo and all the chokes through the years, but they guy had back surgery last year and got kicked in the back last Monday night. Saturday they were scrolling that he had to small fractures in his back and it would be a game time decision Sunday as to whether he would play. Holy ****. If I had 2 small fractures in my back, I wouldn't even be thinking about possibly playing. That guy will be lucky to be able to walk when he's 50.

Was simply stating that they have already said they expect him back for spring practice. Dez Harris tore his ACL for us I'm not so sure he's back for spring practice. I'm no doctor either. Just going by reports.

Hammer.On.Nail. This has really nothing to do with Treadwell. It's just more "Rah Rah. Down but not out! Look at us! Look at us!" garbage.

That was a little different...

Chucky Mullins was a DB and came up to hit Gaines making a catch near the goal line. While he obviously carries it with him to this day, it probably would've been even tougher on him if Gaines was the one doing the tackling.

I think the fact Mullins was paralyzed makes it a bit different than the Treadwell injury.

Quon getting lots of love from both sides. He's a good guy but he's no choir boy - has plenty of arrogance. My son is a junior atMSU and has had some IM wars with Quon this past year over a girl. I've seen the messages. Humility is not something he posseses much of.

Yeah I never quite understood that. You can tell from the documentary that Gaines is still deeply disturbed about it, but he didn't have a thing to do with Mullins' injury besides being the mass that Mullins hit. I suppose it's traumatizing just being a part of that, but I can't honestly say that I'd be nearly as torn up as Gaines is 25 years later if I had been in his place.

It's a classic diversion tactic. It keeps their mind off the fact they missed their big chance.
