So we have free Hulu Live TV until September 23rd when my oldest ordered it. I called and they cancelled, but I have free live TV until the 23rd. Thing about it is I have not watched a single minute of it. I could care less about sports these days and I can watch everything else streaming.

Thing about it is that my OM father-in-law is here (yes, the one who washes his hair in the kitchen sink) for about 3 weeks, and he is consumed about sports. Yesterday, I just rembered that we have the hulu Live tv, but I didn't turn it on. I fear that much of what is going on in the sports world is harmful to society, race relations, and even the advancement of the Gospel, and I don't want any of that in my home, but I feel a little bit guilty towards my OM father-in-law. I'm glad they are here as we have not see any family for about 10 months.

So, am I being a jerk to my father-in-law?

Your home, your rules. Period

And I’d also say that the OM gear better stay in the suitcase

The answer to your question is contained within your question. “OM Father-in-Law.”

It is permissible to shun/disdain/purposefully irritate/ any asshat fitting that description.

I don’t want to be too crass but I find it funny that a preacher comes to a message board for crisis of conscience questions. What are the sermons like? “Remember as you walk out into that world the immortal words of The Godfather, “You say it’s your birthday? We don’t care. Oregon people are the devil in sheep’s clothing. When you pray, pray in silence.”

In all seriousness, cancel the subscription and tell them your moral objections. You will no longer be dishonest with Vidal Sinksoon and you can voice your opinion about sports. Who knows if enough of you foosball is the debil people complain about it, the needle may move.

My personal opinion is that you’re overreacting on sports as a whole, if you enjoyed them before then I think you will now. The politics the opening week of NFL was honestly way less than I thought it would be.

But you have to do what you feel is right in your house. If you don’t want something watched in your house, that’s 100% up to you and your wife. Send paw in law to wild wings.

The guy washes his hair in your sink, you shouldn’t feel bad.

Nope as stated before your house your rules. If you haven't let them know you have the streaming service they will never know, no harm no foul.

If your in-laws are consumed by sports they should have some type of satellite or streaming service of their own. Typical you can access any of these services via smart TV or streaming device such as a Roku or Apple TV. When I travel I carry a Roku just for this reason in case the rental does not have cable or satellite.

Staying for three weeks? WTF? I bet you have some interesting family dynamics.

Sounds like he's an old man with some issues, let him enjoy it for another eight days.

As far as doing damage to the Gospel, I think sports is likely on the lower end.

Just like he was predestined to wash his hair in the sink, you were predestined to hire the fact that you have Hulu live.

Married? It's her dad. What comes around goes around and if Mama not happy then no one is happy. Just saying.

I said whatever gets watched is up to him and his wife. I’m assuming that gives her a say in things and keeps her happy.

Maybe I’m missing something with your reply.

If I was at your house as long as you have an internet connection, at worst a good 4G signal, I can watch anything I want. I wouldn't need any account of yours. So if he wants to watch and can't figure it out it's his problem.

From reading, it sounds like he doesn't even know you have it. So that being said, in the words of Coach Klein, "What Mama don't know, don't hurt her."

If he is really about the sports, the dialogue shouldn't be an issue.

Sounds like you're coming from a good place, to keep the peace in the house (it's hard enough dealing w a Rebel-Bear-Shark).

If you're only keeping it off to prevent the arguing, I support it. If y'all aren't able to have that discussion without him feeling like you're attacking him and throwing shade at you, rip the knob off the tv.

Amazing this has 10 downvotes for a person sticking to their principles.

Tell your father in law to go to BWW for sports and his shower!

I have to agree with coach polk. Yeah your house your rules but you are way too worked up about players kneeling. This isn't as much about Marxism as it is about black men feeling like they are not valued as a whole. You should use this opportunity to open dialog as a Christian and love your neighbor, not close doors.

I don't think it is about being a jerk. I think the question should be "Am I being a good host?". That would qualify the down votes.

I sure there is a bunch of stuff in the Bible about being a good host.

Good Grief Preacher. Let him have Hulu! Lighten up enjoy sports..I can tell you it’s pretty cathartic to watch a little football I enjoyed Coastal vs Kansas like it was LSU - MSU . . If you enjoy sports then watch them don’t let others steal your joy...and don’t steal your FIL’s joy let him watch

I think the downvotes are about the over reaction that a PREACHER posted that the current environment around sports are not only ruining society, but the advancement of the Gospel itself.

I thought gender reveal pyrotechnics causing a massive wildfire would be the most ridiculous thing I would read this week. I was wrong.

Honestly, yes, you are being a bit of a jerk, and you should re-evaluate some things if you're letting politics in sports make you treat family this way.

Sorry Bruce. I was not very clear. I was commenting on Preacher likely getting downvoted for saying that sports is somehow ruining the advancement of the gospel. I would think that some group of idiots getting mad about some other group of idiots kneeling for the national anthem at a football game or wearing stickers on their helmet should have no with the advancement of the gospel... Unless Mike Judge is going all L. Ron Hubbard with Idiocracy and starting a new religion that is...

Did you kneel during the black national anthem?

If no, did you find something else to do during the virtue signaling pregame show and pre kickoff additional signaling of superiority of virtue?

If you answered no to both of these you are good for now but we have our eyes on you.

Yes, you are being a jerk.

People cope and decompress in different ways. My ways have typically been through live music so the past few months have been pretty rough for me even if there are streaming events and now drive-in shows.

Based on your description, his main way of coping is through sports and since you do have access for the next week, just set it up for him but let him know it's a free trial you'd forgotten about that runs out in a week.

Edit to add: Just saw Bruce's comment. Jerk is a bad way for you to ask about what you're doing. Just be a good host.
