Am I missing the connection here?...

Other things like trajectory, etc. being equal. Of course we've all seen countless times where a QB had a gun for an arm but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. From looking at Mallett's stats at Michigan and the Arkansas spring game, I think he's a prime candidate for the next QB to put in that category.

has moreso to do with touch than anything else.

And I doubt anyone can throw a football 115 mph.

The real question is: Can he throw it over the Ozarks?

I totally glossed right over the 115 MPH thing. Since the best baseball pitchers can't even throw a baseball 100 MPH from a pitching mound and with a full windup, I'm pretty sure you're right about nobody being able to throw a football 115 MPH.

The word out of Fayetteville is Mallett has all the tools but is slow. They usually have a capable offensive line though. So, it may not be a issue.

Yea, there is no way he can throw it 115 mph. I don't think it's possible to throw a football harder than a baseball in the first place, and if he could do that, he could probably throw a baseball 125 mph, and he wouldn't be playing football.

And yes, throwing the deep ball is a whole lot about touch. Having a strong arm is good because you can hold the ball longer, but you still have to have touch. Look at how many times Snead missed Mike Wallace last year early in the year before finally finding his touch on the deep ball, and Wallace was faster than anything Mallett will be throwing to.

I'm still calling for Tyler Wilson to be starting by the 6th or 7th game of the season for the Hogs. Remember, these Arkansas fans are the same ones that still think Mitch Mustain is an NFL caliber QB.

Sorry Ron but no one in the history of humankind has ever thrown a football 115 mph. The strongest arms in the NFL struggle to hit 70. If Mallet is topping 115 then Arkansas WR's had better develop some tough hands. But actually, the number you provided is a physical impossibility.
its not. 70 seems realistic though.

I really don't know. Is it when it's released or closer to the plate? That was one thought.

The other is a football is more aerodynamic with it's shape and rotation. But it doesn't make sense to me either.

On clocking a baseball: A baseball is going to gradually slow down. The short distance between the pitcher and the catcher isn't enough space to notice though.

Football vs Baseball: There's no way a football can be thrown harder than a baseball. A football weighs roughly 1 lb. A baseball weighs 5 oz. Also the size of the football and the way it is thrown is the reason it is impossible to be thrown harder than a baseball.</p>

Peyton doesn't have a strong arm as compared to alot of NFL QBs. Compared to Chad Pennington, yes, but I'd say he's closer to middle of the pack.

You've got two bowling balls of different weights. All other factors are equal, and the same person throws each ball back to back. Obviously, it will take this person exerting much more energy and force to make the heavier ball move as fast as the lighter ball. Hence, nobody is going to throw a football faster than any human can throw a baseball.
