must reside at Utah State.

With the WAC falling apart, and stuck in the middle of a conference that goes from Ruston, Louisiana to Hawaii, Utah State was invited to join the Mountain West Conference.

They declined, and now the WAC is on the verge of collapsing. Think Utah State will find a better place than the MWC. Their fans are thinking their best shot is Big Sky with independence in football.

why ANY school would think that being an independent in today's college football landscape would be a good thing. Even Notre Dame is going to be forced to join a conference in about 10 years in my opinion. The service academy schools can get away with it because they're not really playing for the BCS anyway, plus on top of that they have bowl tie ins. Those service academy schools actually can draw somewhat of a crowd, and they will have people watching them on TV. Utah State? Not so much. Even BYU? Not so much. That's the thing that USU and BYU are going to have to realize- they are going to have to work out some deals with some bowls for them to be independent.

What's probably going to end up happening is after USU can't recruit and loses a ton of TV money, they'll end up playing football in the Big Sky in I-AA.

Also, anyone else think that Utah is laughing their *** off at these two right now?

I can't believe that they would turn down a conference that is more stable than the Big 12.

WAC to MWC is a huge step up.

Boise State's BCS appearances have delayed the death of the WAC. Now that Boise is in the MWC, that $16 mil isn't going to be coming in as regularly. Schools that size just can't handle the travel. You spend $10,000 flying a women's soccer team to Hawaii to play one match and then $6,000 in the same season to get them to Louisiana Tech to play another game. In the MWC, your longest road trip is TCU, and they are in the vicinity of a major airport (DFW).

Sure, Utah State would be a bottom feeder in the MWC, and I guess that's why they declined, but still. I'd rather be a bottom feeder in a better conference than a mid-level team in a conference like that.

i dont know...i'm pretty sure RC Johnson at Memphis is the worst AD around.

he was once asked about improving their football facilities, which are horrendous. i've seen high schools with better facilities.

his response was that the city should spend money to improve the airport first because it's the first thing that kids see when they come visit and makes a big impression on them.
