"An ear-splitting slice of hell" deserves repeating. Pat Forde & Stewart Mandel

SM - Congrats, Mississippi State. Game hasn't even started yet and this is the new loudest stadium I've ever been in. Cowbells are no joke.
You haven't lived til you've heard Don't Stop Believing with accompaniment from 50,000 cowbells.

PF - This may be a quiet hamlet near the middle of nowhere most of the time. But on football Saturdays in 2014, with a dream of a team to cheer for, it is an ear-splitting slice of hell for the visiting team.

I also like how Gameday started calling Davis Wade "The Torture Chamber". Love the nickname.

Totally down with The Torture Chamber.

Hell, it's really just spreading to the rest of Our Nation what UM already knows.

I wonder if "Torture Chamber" could catch on? Like our version of death valley. I don't know, might be kind of silly. It's just nice to have people saying how intimidating our stadium is.

This has got to be one of my favorite things about this season; that the fans have all come together with the in-stadium chants/songs and made dws intimidating for opposing teams.

This is the VERY FIRST thing I thought of at the mention of Torture Chamber. Showing my age here, but in High School I went through a short-lived rap phase. I was all into TRU, No Limit, ad nauseam. So, that said...Bout it, Bout it! Make em say uuuuuugh!

If we could clean up the lyrics and apply it to State specific themes it could be a good beat to ring the cowbells to.

It's louder w/o the Cowbells.

This is true, but an advantage of the cowbells that not many consider: Because we are using two forms of noise, neither one gets worn out. Because we only have to yell for a few seconds at a time when the center is over the ball, our vocal chords don't get worn out nearly as fast as any other fanbase at any other stadium's would, allowing us to have more consistent and intense noise throughout the game.

Consider bells to be our 1A and yelling to be our 1B. Bother are effective and neither gets too tired.

I saw a poll of coaches this week of most difficult places to play. LSU was ranked 1, Oregon was ranked high, Alabama got a high ranking but out of the fifty or so mentioned DWS didn't make the list. Bet it changes after this year! Bowling in the north end zone helped a bunch!

The way PF described it was like something straight out of Mordor. I saw freakin orcs in my mind. He called the cowbell an "audio cudgel". Hahaha

I don't get the Autzen thing, I went to Oregon for that game and I thought their atmosphere was a joke, I don't remember it being loud at all. The biggest thing I remember is there were more bicycles on campus than coolers, thousands of bicycles in bike parking lots. People rode them to the game, got a claim ticket just like parking a car in a parking garage.

That "ear-splitting slice of hell" article by Forde is my favorite article I've come across during this whole run so far.

Love it.

I'm with ya. The very beginning of the song is perfect (sorry no link not on YouTube). "Welcome to our house. The only one on the block with it's very own Torture Chamber!" Might be cool. I too listened to TRU in my early years of high school. Wonder what ever happened to C-Murder

This too was awesome from PF's article

"There isn't an ounce of fluke in what the Bulldogs are doing in Mullen's sixth season. They're one of five teams in AP poll history to defeat three straight top-10 opponents – first LSU, then Texas A&M, now Auburn. In those three games, Mississippi State has trailed for a total of 2 minutes, 49 seconds. It has led by double digits for roughly 125 of 180 minutes."
