What made the Zimmerman case a national story? Martin and Zimmerman were fighting. Zimmerman took out his gun and killed Martin. Unfortunately, killings like this happen everyday across the country. Zimmerman is Hispanic and Martin is black. Two minorities. No police involvement. No white on black crime.

Zimmerman may have acted stupidly in following Martin. But why do some posters on this board want Zimmerman to die? I don't think any evidence suggests that Zimmerman was out to kill Martin.

George Zimmerman having the whitest sounding name in the country is the only reason it became a national issue...

But surely the media had to know very quickly that Zimmerman was Hispanic. There are over 8,500 killings of black men each year. Why this one gains national coverage?

By the time they found out he was Hispanic, the train was already going full speed. That is why the term 'white Hispanic' was coined...
