First off, I can't imagine Mullen would leave 2.6 million a year and the security of MSU and head to the **** storm that will be PSU for the next several years. In the meantime, MSU is gettingtons of media exposure from Mullen's name being mentioned in connection to the PSU job. Why not milk it...keepgetting the publicity...ride this wave for a while.Obviously, when the negative begin outweighing the positive...you cut ties and say Mullen stays at MSU. Just a thought.

ESPN is treating the hiring of a new corch up there as if it were ho hum..well, they just need to go out and hire another corch, as if they have compartmentalized the football program and are ignoring the fact that this **** going on up there has permeated everything and it's going to be a damn mess of a cesspool for years with litigation and the inability to focus on the football program by any corch or anybody else involved. If it's offered and Dan takes it, well, I just don't know what to think.

I just don`t understand how so many of you guys don`t understand Mullen is at a huge crossroad. Unless he reels in some super JUCO`s this year heprobably has recruited himself into a tenuous position. I think if he`s offered .... he goes.

that Mullen has recruited worse than Croom? Also, do you not think Mullen has a better eye for talent then Croom?</p>

I think Mullen has recruited worse than Croom.... Sherrod, Pegues, Cox, K.J. Wright, Bumpis, Tyler Russell, Robert Elliott, Charles Mitchell, Josh Boyd....all guys who had tight recruiting battles around them who Croom landed. Before you say anything about Cox, Bump, TR or Boyd Croom had them all but locked up (maybe except for Bump).<div>
</div><div>I think Mullen knows how to utilize talent better andisn'tgoing to give schollys to his buddies kids like Croom did.</div>

after we couldn`t close on the guy we wanted. Quite frankly Croom`s recruits have been a pleasant suprise in a number of positions. To answer your question about Croom vs Mullen in evaluating talent I don`t know that yet. Croom pissed off more schollies on friends` kids and injured kids etc. than Mullen ...I do know that.

Let's assume the "crossroad" theory is accurate...If I'm Mullen, I still like my chances for a successful future more at MSU than PSU. If it implodes at MSU, he still lands a nice gig somewhere...just not his "dream job" of PSU, which is probably no longer a dream job to him.

Speaking of **** storm try recruiting around the elites of the SEC and 80 miles from the nicest facilities in the country. They get 5 and 4 stars when you get the 3 and 2 stars. In most cases they can hand pick the best from your own state. Mullen is one of the most positive guys in world that can sell and you do not think he would do this at Penn State. Relentless energy in his program.

First of all, I don't think that Mullen necessarily has a better eye for talent than Croom and his staff did. I think that Croom and Co. were often times just lazy and settled for picking the "low-hanging fruit" and for some reason were resigned to the fact that settling for 2 and 3-star guys was the best they could do.

I think that Mullen and staff are indeed aggressive when it comes to recruiting (perhaps too aggressive or blunt) and try to go after the big boys, however, his pride also leads him to believe that he is a great coach and that our staff can take 2 and 3-star guys that should be playing in the Sun Belt or C-USA and coach them up into quality SEC players. Some of these guys have panned out, while others don't or won't.

As for Collins, I thought that when we hired him, his recruiting skills were one of the primary selling points. His reputation as a "top-notch" recruiter is featured prominently in his bio on the athletics website and in this excerpt from his old UCF bio:

Before joining the Knights' staff, Collins spent a year as the director
of player personnel at Alabama. While at Alabama, Collins' was
responsible for bringing in the best recruiting class in the history of
the school along with being ranked the SEC's and nation's consensus No. 1
recruiting class. The previous year at Georgia Tech, Collins' efforts
led to the Yellow Jackets best recruiting class in their storied
history. The class finished as the nation's 11th-ranked class overall
and first in the ACC.
If our recruiting is down again this year, even after Mullen has brought in a guy that was supposed to help us improve in this area, then I will be in panic mode.

If Mullen were to leave today, who leaves the program in better shape strictly from a talent stand point, Mullen or Croom?

that each left behind. At this point I don`t see Mullen leaving as many future NFL`ers as Croom did.

when croom left

we had an underdeveloped oline ...nobody saw sherrod being as good as he was
no wr worth a damn
tyson lee and chris relf
zach smith
jamar chaney which he was handed from UGA
1 year of anythony dixon and then we would have been with conner ...boy he tore up troy this year running the ball

1st class
mullen had to bust *** to get 7 wr in
2nd class
he had to try to fix oline and dline depth while still land at least a qb so we would have 3 on roster
rs fr this year replaced a lot of crooms 5th year guys for time... that says something
3rd class
seem to be very solid at this point
pj jones
and preston saw time
the biggest get redshirted in Joe Morrow and Dak Prescott

I can't believe people are even hinted that croom recruited better than mullen

will our oline be the same or probably worst ...probably so but that has to be on the 2008 class only signing two and 2009 croom was only on 2 again
THE OLINE CANT BE ON MULLEN, when they are going up against JR's And SR's from bama and lsu that redshirted no less

Neither recruited the type classes it takes to compete in the SEC and I think Mullen is smart enough to realize this (Croom simply wasn`t that smart)AND may have an opportunity to move on before the **** hits the fan (Croom didn`t).

I mean when a recruit is looking at you and lsu and they look at the records from 2002 -2010 and see at least 7 seasons with 7+ loses and then see lsu with 0 ...that really don't put you in the same boat, now does it ...but would that mean that mullen is a ****** recruitor?

i realize we lost some recruits to ole miss last year and I realized they were rated higher than the ones we got.
we redshirted ours, they play most of theirs ...in 3 years can we compare then, and not yet say mullen sucks at recruiting
because really you don't know, our guys haven't even played yet

i don't think mullen is the best recruitor, but he beats the hell out of croom and it ain't close...

You have said that both Croom and Mullen have recruited about the same. So why couldn't Mullen continue winning at about the same clip he is winning now?

18. Think about that. And several of those are OL guys. This is one of the largest redshirt groups we have had in a number of years. Those are guys coming available next season. This is out of our class of 22 that made it to campus. This is how the big schools are able to produce good players over time. Every so often a freshman can play but you are talking one or two guys out of a class of 25. We have been patching holes for so long that we lose sight of the fact that the really good teams are able to redshirt and develop players.

DJ Fluker at Bama is a prime example. He man-handles Cox and Boyd at the Miss-AL all star game. But Bama redshirted him as big and good as he was. Now he is doing the same thing several years later while we had to play Cox and Boyd as freshmen.

Mullen is trying to build depth and we are going to have to suffer for it the next year or so. Whoever is coaching us in three years is going to have a deep team.

not seeing any recruits we are getting with Collins that we probably couldn't have gotten without him SO FAR.
