And Collins reminds me why not to get excited about this team...

The fact that Ryan Collins is a starter on ANY SEC baseball team tells me all I need to know about this team. You can't field a whole damn team full of bunters and baserunners, I don't care if our field is 500 feet to all fields. The lack of offense on this team will kill us all season.

either by just pitching, defense, and hitting, just all around better team. I sure in hell didn't expect a 2-1 loss, and if worse came to worse, we would win in a slugfest, like 11-8. One run against Belmont, damn! That's baseball.

we did not work the count well at all. Their starting pitcher (who had a 9.00 ERA, mind you...) would throw us a strike on the first pitch... no swing. Then we would start fouling away pitches. Before you know it, we were sitting at a 0-2 or 1-2 count. It's hard to get good pitches when we can't control the count. Or we would just ground out into a DP... had 3 or 4 of those.

That was the most maddening thing about the last years of Polk. If that pitcher was trying to get ahead on the count, make him pay for grooving a pitch up the middle.

...however you have one of those games when everything you do turns into a negative. Each time we hit the ball, it was hit hard, but right at someone. With runners on 2nd and 3, one out in the 8th, a hard hit ball to a drawn in short stop was gobbled and the runner thrown out at the plate. A smash up the middle bounces off the pitcher's glove, to the SS for a 1-6-3 out, and the runner who would have scored from third didn't get to score because there were two outs. This crap happened the whole ball game. That is baseball! I thought Devon Jones pitched lights out until the ninth when a bloop single started the ininning then a miss played long fly ball in the outfield caused the two runs to score. Kind of pississes you off doesn't it?

will result in a win. Jones pitched well and should have been pulled after that first single in the 9th. That being said, Brownlee has to make that catch in center field. Bottom line is that is he makes that catch, we win the game.
