It will die in the senate. Chris Mc is a bigot.

Doubtful. We wouldn’t be at this point without the votes. It’s why they are finally moving forward, and why Tate finally made a statement this morning, they have the votes.

McDaniel can cry all he wants, he is powerless now.

So they are going to require “in God we trust”?

I guess that basically eliminates the hospitality flag unless they want to add that phrase.

New design would be on November ballot and is required to include ‘In God We Trust’. If rejected, commission has to design a new flag with ‘In God We Trust’. Fine with me, let’s do this Senate.

Desoto County gets laughed at because of how they block vote and usually it’s on the wrong side of the issue.

Interesting that Becky Currie from Brookhaven voted no. She was on Supertalk last week voicing support for legislative change.

Not suggesting thus would happen

But say we fly something with "In God We Trust" and SCOTUS forced us to take it off (it's going to get challenged and will be expensive), do we revert to current flag or just take the phrase off?

Courts won’t do anything. It’s considered a national motto, on currency, etc. It’s been decided by courts in past that the phrase is not a religious endorsement.

Edited to add, if they added ‘In Jesus We Trust’ on flag, it would be struck down by courts. Silly but that’s the rules.

Remember that this passed with a Republican Super-majority. A lot of those yes votes will have to answer for that vote with their constituents because of a challenger in a Republican primary that very few of the 38% black population votes. There will be Representatives that chose to lose their seat for this vote.

Must be mixing it up with the 10 commandments monuments. I have no issue with the phrase but was worried it would be a fruitless legal battle

The problem with that (not me, because I'm Christian) is that then the Atheists will be all pissed off.

A huge majority of Mississippi Democrats are Christian too, atheists will just have to accept that’s the only way for a new flag.

All Desoto County reps voted Nay. ::Facepalm::

That’s a little shocking. In my opinion, there is really only a handful of places in MS that could be hurt by not changing the flag (economically speaking). Jackson metro, coast, Hattiesburg, Starkville (golden triangle), Oxford and desoto county

I take umbrage with that statement. I agree that many “identify” as “Christians”. Not sure many “qualify”.

The Way is narrow.

Call other denominations ‘fake Christians’ all you want, but doesn’t change the fact that most Mississippians regardless of party or race are religious and don’t have a problem with God on the flag. House Dems just passed it 44 to zero.
