'"Scott is both an outstanding football coach and a relentless recruiter," Mullen said.'

Coachspeak at its finest.

He recruited Cord and Sandberg, probably two of top three prospects. Our tight end play has been solid under him. I don't see a big problem here.

If who our tight end coach is defines our season or our program going forward, we have much larger issues.

Cord and Sandberg?

I'm confused?

I thought his new position would be more about focused on the aspects of continuous recruiting than having to do the day to day coaching that a position coach does. Aren't more schools doing this through the "administrative positions?"

It's my understanding that the position we were setting Sallach up for essentially doesn't exist yet(although it did at the time of initial shuffling), since the NCAA has indefinitely suspended the legislation it passed on opening up the recruiting rulebook on football -- so basically all the expected changes that the NCAA made this year have been suspended and never actually went into effect. The rule that applies here would have allowed the "recruiters" and "coaches" to be entirely different people -- essentially allowing us to take Hevesy off the recruiting trail and allow a fulltime recruiter to work for us in his "slot" which I'm assuming would have been Sallach's role...

ETA: Yes, I'm upset about this occurrence(Sallach back to the field -- Hev back to the recruiting trail) as well...

Engie is right, the position we created for Sallach has been ruled out by the NCAA. The vacancy on the staff just settled it where we didn't have to move him to some other position.

I personally don't see why people are this upset. We are unlikely at this time to bring in a Brewster type resume to be tight ends coach, so why not stay with the guy who is familiar with what you are doing, who has done well enough in the past. Hell, Brewster is more of an internet legend than anything else. Getting us in the front door with some prospects isn't worth all the teeth gnashing we are doing over his departure.

Well since the NCAA acted we really had no other choice this late in the game. I think most negativity regarding this was based in him having the new position.

Scott should be commended for his loyalty. He's definitely not swollen with pride. Personally, I have never had good luck with off-again, on-again relationships.

I just wish Mullen would on occasion use synonyms for relentless...

How about: adamant, bound, bound and determined, dead set on, determined, dogged, ferocious, fierce, go for broke, grim, hang in, hang-tough, hard, harsh, implacable, inexorable, inflexible, inhuman, mortal, obdurate, pitiless, remorseless, rigid, rigorous, ruthless, single-minded, stiff, stop at nothing, strict, stringent, unappeasable, unbending, uncompromising, undeviating, unflinching, unforgiving, unrelenting, unstoppable, unyielding, vindictive

Nothing like a potential reassignment to get the competitive juices going. I expect to see relentless effort on the sidelines by Sallach starting this week.

Went to the same school as Mullen (Ursinus)

and I think at the same time. They must have played FB together.

He's the one that was an on-field coach, was moved to an office-only job, and is now back on-field. Is that correct?

someone remind me again why this is such a bad choice. Seriously. I conceed I've not been paying attention.

I think the only worse hires would have been Mcorvey, or maybe the defensive coord for Sherrill his final year....at least according to the comments.
