The NCAA is investigating potential recruiting violations at Arizona State, Doug Haller and Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported on Wednesday. At the forefront is the allegation that the football program "hosted high school prospects during the recent COVID-19 dead period," among other potential recruiting violations.
Defensive backs coach Chris Hawkins and wide receiver coach Prentice Gill are on administrative leave.
Hawkins and Gill now join tight ends coach Adam Breneman, who was already on paid leave. The young trio were sought out by Antonio Pierce for their ability to recruit well as all three have made a major in the Sun Devils’ recruiting.
Arizona State is now without three of its position coaches less than a month out from its first game. This probably makes the most impact on the wide receiver room that needs to take a big step in development for the offense to take the strides it wants.
Sun Devil Source reported that there is an expectation from its sources graduate assistant Bobby Wade to coach WRs, analyst Trey Anderson to work with QBs so that OC/QB coach Zak Hill can also work with WRs, and consultant Donnie Henderson will coach the secondary.
