I dont think firing Rick now is the answer either. He has represented the university well and has done much more good for us than harm. My point was that I have seen enough out of Bryne that he's not gonna fly off and fire him and take a chance on setting MSU back without having an ace up his sleeve. Whether that would be a big name that he might have to overpay to come to Starkville or a young guy at MAAC type school that is just getting his feet wet but has the look of a winner, I dont know. Bryne is going to do what he feels is very best for the university and he may be the lowest paid AD in the SEC but he knows exactly what he is doing. At some point if he stays long enough he is going to shoot himself in the foot but from what he has shown so far he deserves the benefit of the doubt.

keep improving our schedule each year like Tennessee and others to play a national schedule...if Stansbury survives- great...if he doesnt, so be it.

Stop playing the "we can't get anybody better" card...we heard that same **** in football about firing Crooms...and look what happened? We will be able to find applicants to come coach in the SEC for a million a year- i guarantee it. Especially with our new indoor practice facility

Name one.

I'm sure there is no one on this board who would object to any of our sports teams achieving greater success. No real MSU fan. However, I'm not convinced improving our men's basketball performance is the easy sure thing you make it out to be.

how some people think Stansbury is the only person in the world that can recruit players to Starkville. Its not that hard to smile to momma and pay the AAU coaches...but it always comes back to coaching- no matter who you get on campus...and this will always be his downfall...it's the same thing year after year after year

I cant give you a name of a coach because I dont follow basketball nearly as closely as I do football and baseball. But I can see we are going to continue to have the same problem until we change.

.... may have to resort back to the old "we're a baseball school" saying from the past. Then again,. Ole Miss owns us in that sport as well in this state. Are we still good in golf or tennis? Haven't been keeping up.

Coaches would take the money to coach at an SEC school. I don't doubt that. However, I want to point out two things to you. First, firing a successful coach is not going to help in hiring a good replacement. Secondly, hiring a good coach isn't exactly as easy as you make it out to be.

"First, firing a successful coach is not going to help in hiring a good replacement."

You people constantly try to make Stansbury out like he is Coach K or Dean Smith....Most coaches will look at the fact he has never made a Sweet 16 while coaching in a major conference in 12 years or so and still has a job as "job stability"...they will welcome that kind of stability in today's coaching world

"Secondly, hiring a good coach isn't exactly as easy as you make it out to be"

The Ninja is 2 for 2 so far...i'm willing to let him try

Not only have I never said Stans = Coach K, I have consistently affirmed that he is not the greatest coach ever. I'm sure that's lost on you though. It's either or with you - either one is Coach K or one is Coach Crooms. One can be a good coach and be successful, without being the greatest coach ever.

As far as the so called job security goes, when one takes a college program to more NCAA appearances by himself than the school had in its entire history prior to his tenure, that should rightfully gain some job security. You are acting as if he was coaching North Carolina and never got past the first weekend. While, yes, I'm frustrated by our inability to make a Sweet 16, and yes we have choked it away at times, one can go overboard and act as if what Stans has done deserves termination. That's a ridiculous position.

Houston Nutt.

He does just enough to keep you optimistic about the upcoming season, then he takes a giant **** on your hopes and dreams - somehow, someway.

He's certainly an above average recruiter, but a below average coach. I probably should give him credit as a great recruiter, but that still doesn't change the fact that he is definitely a below average coach. Without Rick, would we have the talent on campus to win consistently? Yet on the other hand, if we had a good coach with this talent, wouldn't MSU be a force on the national scene every year? It's a damned shame really that Rick hasn't improved himself as a coach or brought in better assistants. Rick still has been successful at MSU thanks to his penchant for getting talented athletes on board. If he only could develop them into "basketball players", we could be a national power. Won't happen though, so we may as well just accept another good year but not a great year. Could be worse I suppose. There are 5 other teams in the SEC Western Division who have not matched Mize State's consistent success in the Stansbury era.

But overall that just doesn't cut it. You can have all of the talent you want, but without a coach that knows his X's and O's, that said team is pissing in the wind. I've stuck with Stans for a while now and I do appreciate all that he's done for the University, but I honestly think we can get a better coach as far as taking us beyond the first few rounds of the Tourney.

Again, Stans is eerily similar to Nutt: He's just good enough to get your hopes up before shooting them down somehow. It's fine for some, but that **** gets monotonous after a while. Especially when you know you have the talent to beat the teams you're supposed to and take success beyond the previous season.

DowntownDawg[/b]]...Same **** every year. We won't make 2nd weekend until we can be a 6 or better. We won't be a 6 or better until we win the games we should in the nonconference.
Umm...You've been higher than a 6 seed three times with "The Weekender," and you haven't played your way out of the first building yet.

I don't know why you guys are all so surprised. It always takes The Weekender 3 months to figure out what the hell he's doing. I mean, hell! They've only been practicing since September or whatever. What do you want?

And give Kodi Augustus credit. He went ahead and volunteered himself for that annual wave of attrition that the team incurs after every single year. He took the initiative!

Remember though...Some radio people will have you believe that The Weekender is for real and Ron Polk's 2007 CWS run was a total fluke.

The last laugh will be on Rider, however, when the Broncs can only manage a NIT run while State basks in the glow of a 9 seed and a round 2 moral victory against Kansas or UNC.

That we beat Ole Miss twice in Oxford last year and split for the season overall and just had a higher ranked recruiting class than them.

That's not exactly my definition of owning someone.
