I see where the Bears have picked up another verbal commitment in the kicker out of Memphis. Other than previously committing to Virginia, is there any story of why in heaven's name would his guy, or any of the other number ones, be headed to Oxford other than the obvious explanations?

I agree. It makes no sense at all that a kid from Memphis would want to play at the closest BCS school to his home.

So, all those number ones are from Memphis? I believe that was the bigger point I was making.

I understand the point you were making. I just think you used a poor example.

He shows three offers (OM, aTm, and Virginia). Only one is remotely close to home.

Besides him being an OM fan?

And I think his dad and uncle going there? Yep, what reason could he possibly have.

1. Kicker.
2. OM country and family went there.
3. See number 1.
4. Did I mention #1 yet?

It must be a down year in terms of kicking talent...

"Wunderlich was 8 of 16 in field goal attempts last season, with seven of the misses coming from beyond 40 yards."

So if he were a QB or RB, your saying something would be wrong with him picking OM despite being from Memphis and an OM legacy? But because he's "only" a kicker, it's ok. Am I understanding correctly?

He's not saying it's "OK" because he is a kicker, he's saying that because he is a kicker, it's insignificant. In other words, we don't give a ****.

Maybe he's a lifelong Ole Miss fan?

I see where the Bears have picked up another verbal commitment in the kicker out of Memphis. Other than previously committing to Virginia, is there any story of why in heaven's name would his guy, or any of the other number ones, be headed to Oxford other than the obvious explanations?

Or does that excuse only work for Chris Jones?

The reasons have been rehashed for 8 months now...

  1. Older brother is Freshman on team and doing very well, his parents want him going their, tons of good publicity about Ole Miss and Oxford, knows about Freeze from Blind Side, etc.
  2. Best friend is on team and loves Oxford and Ole Miss, tons of good publicity about Ole Miss and Oxford, knows about Freeze from Blind Side, with Donte in lineup, who do you doubleteam? Pass happy offense, legit QB, wants to play in the best conference, etc.
  3. Wants to play and practice against the best (RN), visited and fell in love with the place, tons of good publicity about Ole Miss and Oxford, knows about Freeze from Blind, etc.

Add that Ole Miss was in every game except early season TX game and had lead against TA&M, Bama, Georgia, and LSU in the 2nd half. We were the surprise team of the SEC last year playing a lot of young players.
These are just a few of the reasons.
