It truly is insane, he’s an important piece to our success.
Have an off night, it’s understandable if you struggle a bit….every player does.

But you can’t look like you’ve never played the game before and be non functional.
How does that happen in such a tremendous atmosphere and important game

He at least sometimes hits the offensive glass and gets some 2nd chance points. Tonight he provided nothing.

disagree... Mulcahy, and more so McConnell’s turnovers hurt the team more than Hyatt’s goose egg. And Mulcahy didnt defend, giving #15 multiple open 3s.
Agreed. What has either contributed recently? Paul's last good half was against Spartans.

Tonight was the bad Hyatt we saw in games his first couple of years.

There’s no room for games like this with this team. Extremely disappointing.

People were saying it was wishful thinking that Griffiths would start over Hyatt next year on TOS

Cannot wait for Griffiths

Hyatt in pre game was hitting trey after trey. Then the lights came on. Those first 2 shots he took were atrocious. Then 2 missed FTs. Friends said he was pouting and then maybe frozen out. I did not notice either. I did notice we needed Hyatt and he was MIA.

He refused to take a shot after that and was kind of useless. Noone stepped up

I would have to go watch again, but, I think the Michigan defense made a concerted effort to not help on defense using the man guarding Hyatt. It took away his open looks and touches.

The same thing Rutgers did with PSU with a few of their shooters.

Aside from the obvious shooting woes last night Hyatt was beat to every loose ball in his vicinity and showed a complete lack of effort/ interest.

Problem was beyond putting the ball in the hoop - it was putting the ball in the hands of folks to put in the hoop.

I am a Philadelphia Eagles fan. There was a playoff game like 10ish years ago where David Akers, who was an exceptional kicker, missed like 3 or 4 field goals costing the Eagles the game. It was so egregious that Andy Reid basically blamed the loss on him in the press conference.

It turned out his kid had just been diagnosed with cancer or something like that. I have no idea what was going on with Hyatt last night but it was the kind of complete outlier performance that makes me think he could've had something going on off the court. I don't really like this thread calling him out though I do understand it's what message boards are for.

I could be wrong, this is 100% complete speculation on my part.

He was horrid tonight and a big reason why the team couldn't even break 50 points tonight.
He should have stayed home. As an athlete you NEED to show up every game . I dont know how someone can get on that court and look like he did last night.

Also while I will (and have) vehemently disagree with Mag being worth 10+ points on an average day.. Mag does also help cushion your variance. If Hyatt is completely off, you play Mag for 35 minutes.. Now you either have to ride Hyatt and hope for the best or switch to Rieber/Palmquist/Simpson/etc. Simpson, I still think has potential to be a solid rotation guy but he is not there yet. Rieber and Palmquist are just simply not good players at this level.

It's really amazing how deep this team looked to start the season with just a healthy Mag.

Mulcahy and Caleb at least had some positive plays last night. Hyatt gave us nothing

But did their positives outweigh their negatives ? Not to me. PM played no D and both had multiple turnovers.

Hyatt horrible and people still saying Mag doesn't matter. Pike could have glued Hyatt to the bench and rolled with Mag

Hyatt was really really bad tonight. Acting like that didn't matter bc we missed FTs is silly
The problem is that Hyatt was one of the few players on the team that showed a pulse on offense in recent games.Poor recruiting has caught up wiith Rutgers as the season has progressed and the mediocre offense has been exposed.Defense keeps teams in games but offense wins games.Scoring 45 points in front of a sellout crowd is unacceptable because Rutgers had a more experienced team than Michigan but still has a mediocre offense.

Im not sure anyone is saying losing Mag “doesn’t matter”…

But losing Mag isn’t the reason we’re struggling right now

We played Indiana in their place down to wire in a high level basketball game. We led Illinois at their place for a half. This team is still capable of high level basketball yet laying eggs at its vaunted home arena

It’s the same team we’ve had all year.

We’re extremely bi-polar and have been all year. We lost to Temple. We lost to Seton Hall.

This team…since October…has been able to beat anyone but also…able to lose to anyone. This is nothing new.
