I don't know that losing Buh is two steps back. It's not a welcome loss, but it's not the end of the world.

One step forward, two steps back...UK football in a nutshell.

This really hurts, just when the special teams had a dedicated coach this happens ! The players from all account lived and respected him, will be tough to find someone as invested at this point. Hate to see him go but no one can blame him

Buh is a huge loss. There is no point in sugar coating it. But losing Ansley was worse. The truth is that our defensive coaching staff has taken 2 very important hits this offseason. Fortunately, Stoops has enough gravitas as a defensive expert to recover, but this is a very awkward time of year for this to happen.

It's a major setback and to view it any other way is being unrealistic. End of the world? I never said that. Hurts the development of the D/STs? Damn straight.

Unrealistic in your opinion. Let's wait and see who the replacement is.

Better, see how much better you do when not taking pot shots at others?

How huge a loss, if at all, depends on how & with whom, we replace him, doesn't it?

It's clear that some of you revel in the doom and gloom, so I'll leave it to you.

Don't see it as doom and gloom, it's the timing. Players and staff getting settled in understanding each other's responsibility the teaching and philosophy of expectations. We have spring game in a couple weeks with evaluations moving into summer camp. The players will have to adapt to a new coach and what he wants done vs Buh, it's like when you go to get a new car that you have settled on after doing your due diligence but when you go to finalize the deal they changed the price or options

Not saying he was but shipping your kid out of state if you are planning to stay at UK seems a little weird.
Higher level of competition and better exposure. Wouldn't read any more than that into his transfer. All assistant coaches are looking for the next move - it's the nature of the business. Honestly, UK has one assistant that his loss would be crippling - and we kept him away from Michigan last year.

If losing Buh is the difference between a winning season or a losing season then UK was in trouble before the season started. Just have to have someone in place to be in charge of the Special Teams. No reason to freak out.

Legend wasn't going to get an offer from UK.
His Dad knows as much as anyone how much of a business football is now. His kid is not going to get an offer from UK and he has been visiting a circuit of schools lately. It is simply a business decision to send him to a school and area that gives him more exposure. Happens all of the time. Look at IMG Academy and the amount of out-of-state kids they take in every year. Its a business move pure and simple.

Surely there's an up and coming coach, a diamond in the rough so to speak, who Kentucky can afford to pay.

Exactly. If this move happened at the end of the season, no big deal. But happening now is really tough.

Buh has every right to find the type of work most suited to his objectives, whether it be location, money, responsibilities, etc. That said, it sucks to lose him right in the middle of spring practice. Also, I hope he doesn't take any recruits with him.

I agree that losing Buh is a big hit.
Lots of guys on the board were saying how Brumbaugh was being hit up for the DC position at schools. It wasn't him that was coveted it was Buh.
I thought of the 2 position coaches we could afford to lose due to teaching skills was the OL and DL coaches. OL coach is doing a good job of recruiting in state guys though but you have to look at these kids are in state kids and we would be the favorite anyways with them.
Brumbaugh hasn't really brought in much and our line develops no penetration whatsoever to the qb.

I'm sure that it's happened before in the history of college football but can't think of an example where a coach voluntarily left during the middle of Spring practice. Extremely horrible timing and there can't be a lot of possible replacements available at this late date. Sounds like the team might be playing one coach short for a while.

I agree. I thought the two coaches who should be replaced first were Schlarman and Brumbaugh. Both lines have sucked since Stoops has been here but at least Schlarman has brought in some recruits. Brumbaugh was brought here to start a Juco pipeline. That hasn't happened.

Schlarman has had zero talent to work with. He has that now. He deserves to still be here. Buh's timing is bad but we aren't losing much recruiting wise. We'll be alright.

Well, you can't blame the guy for movin' on up to a DC position. Not the best of timing but not a disaster unless you believe Buh was a top notch recruiter or position coach. I suppose Buh is leaving ASAP and won't finish spring. Elliot will just have to pull double duty until they bring a new OLB coach on board (probably after spring practice is over). One of the new QC guys has experience as a ST coach and may be able to help in that regard until Stoops decides how he wants to handle STs. Still, it just adds to the coaching churn going on right now at a time when many here were calling for better "sideline organization".

Peace

Uhhhh, this was caused by Maryland's DC (voluntarily) stepping down last week...

I'm hearing Rick Minter is available . . . .

Wait ... Never mind.
