People are not talking about this and quite frankly I think most have forgotten.

Andy Buh who was DC at Nevada, California and Stanford promoted from with in by Harbaugh.

He was the linebackers coach at UK but, had a major impact on the overall leadership of the defense. This is why Stoops had to be more active on defense.
(Stoops knows his best DC on staff went to Maryland)

Let's hope Stoops can regain control.

We lost Buh and we lost Ansley. Defensive staff took a massive hit this past off-season. That being said, gotta replace those guys and move on. House was a solid hire, IMO. Not to the level of a Peveto or Buh, but solid. DBs have taken a major step back, so I'm not sold on Clinkscale.

I thought for sure Buh would be made DC last offseason. I wonder if that was the original plan, but he saw a more secure future in College Park?

Looking at the UK defensive numbers there is something majorly wrong. I don't want another "bash the staff" thread. But, from what I've been told is that Buh had a powerful role. He was the leader on the staff.

I get what you are saying but the D has been hot garbage since Stoops has been here. Buh and Ansley may have been the band-aid that kept gash from opening all the way up. But it's been bleeding for a while.

That's one of several things that infuriates me with Stoops. I could get it if the D was improving year over year and he just couldn't the O running. He's a D first guy. But being that our D has been worse that our O (which is saying something) is alarming at best. Not to mention the lack of organization, horrible special teams, consistently lining up wrong, not enough men on the field, etc.

Maryland hasn't really played anyone yet, but they are holding teams to 17ppg (top-30) and 365ypg.

Kentucky is giving up 43.7/528.

I don't know if it was Buh. But man our defense is atrocious.

It's hard to be this bad on defense. Now Stoops is getting pissed at practice. I hate to blame players but could they have just recruited some bad apples in the front 7? Idk
This entire thing is a mess. I'm going to support Stoops. I won't support DJ because he has zero confidence/swagger etc. But I'll support Stoops until the end. If this defense doesn't show major improvement by the end of the year then something is wrong. It is SO much easier to be average on defense than it is on offense.

Stoops is going down the Joker train, assistants that can't coach but are his buddies. We saw where that went first go round

It reminds me of the time that Curry was, seemingly, forced to fire Larry New as Defensive Coordinator. He went to Virginia and their defense was the #1 nationally against the run the following year. Good coaching is vital, of course, but you have to have the players that match the skill level of your opponents. The SEC is a tough league.

Don't act like our defense only has problems with SEC teams .

I was never impressed by Buh. He was a terrible Special Teams coach and was such a bad DC at Cal that he was fired after just 1 season. Coach House is definitely an upgrade in all facets over Buh.

IMO he would have stayed if stoops turns the defense over to him.. Nothing to back that up,but eliot was struggling and should have been demoted .

May be. He almost stayed as it was. He turned them down, then a few weeks later changed his mind and accepted.

I loved him as a coach and recruiter. But I don't know he was ready to run the defense. Not that he could've possibly done any worse I suppose

So what the hell is DJ Elliot's role? He's the DC for god's sake.
