I read somewhere he is targeting Dean Hood, the former EKU coach.

He has a lot to offer as a defensive mind, but he has also coached defensive backs his whole career. How would that work out between Stoops, Clinkscale, and Hood?

I think this is a very important hire.
We need a coach who is able to land Bette recruits than what we are getting. The LB core is essential in the 3-4 set, so far they havnt really just performed otherworldly if you know what I mean.

Why did Dean leave EKU? Where did he go? Is there Hood-Stoops connection?
Hood was fired after this past year. I don't know about a connection but he is currently an assistant at Charlotte. Stoops probably figures Hood is as decent an assistant as he's going to get this late in the game.

Like the IU assistant. The other guy is decent as well but I like the younger of the two. I could see some guys complaining about him working here back with Mumme.

The IU guy would be a HOME RUN!

Why would he be a home run hire? His coaching resume doesn't approach the ex EKU coach's. IU gave up over 400 points in 2 of the 3 seasons he has been there as co DC. If it is because of his recruiting IU has ranked 46, 68 and 76 the 3 years he has been there. Sure his LBs have been the teams leading tacklers, but who would you expect them to be? He may turn out to be a great coach for UK, if he is the hire, but nothing in his resume says home run hire. Maybe he is a great recruiter and no one is interested in IU, but he hasn't gotten the results to show he is an elite recruiter.

Would absolutely prefer Dean Hood over the IU guy. Agreed with Grumpy on every single point.
Seriously, is it really impressive that linebackers are leading tacklers on the defense? That's beyond common.

Dean Hood had defenses at Wake Forest that gave up less than 15 points per game. That's very good. He's a veteran coach that knows how to run a program, and he has a wealth of experience.
I see no reason, I repeat, not a single reason in the world to pick the IU coach over Dean Hood.

At this point experience outways other options. Hoods exp as a head coach would help us

I may regret this decision, but I'm still going to let Stoops make this call...

I agree with that, he knows far more about each applicant than anyone here does. Each of the two in this thread have their pluses and minuses. Both are defensive guys, Inge is probably perceived as the better recruiter of the 2, but he isn't recruiting talent to IU that UK is getting now. The one thing that sticks out to me is one has had a good bit of success as a DC at school not normally considered a football school. Won the ACC or a division of it anyway, at WF with a defense that gave up about 15 a game. Obviously the guy knows defense and a negative might be too many cooks trying to stir the pot kind of thing with Stoops being a former DC, Elliot being the DC and Hood being a former HC and DC. If they can work together I don't see any negative to Hood, at this time of year, I think he would be a home run type hire as for as the actual coaching the players go. Just my opinion and like you said, it is Stoops's decision because his rear is the one on the line.

In defense of the IU coach, nobody shows up to IU games. Their stadium and facilities are terrible. Ive been up there several times. What elite FB player would want to go to IU? At least at UK you have a great fan base and great facilities plus you play in the SEC.
