Andy Kennedy question....

Does anyone think Andy Kennedy may bail on OM after this run, if offered an equal or better job somewhere else? He has to know that this is somewhat smoke and mirrors and that the SEC can only get better than it was this year. Plus, by taking a new job, he would be guaranteed at least 3 to 4 years at the new school. At OM, they may fire him next year, if OM returns to being futile, which is entirely possible.

I think it's very possible. And it would be a huge mistake by any school that hires him. It would be like South Carolina hiring Darrin Horn after a miracle Sweet 16 run at WKU. Too often schools make the mistake of hiring a coach that leads a mid major or non traditional power team to a Sweet 16, despite the fact that he has a middling record otherwise. Three wins in the SEC tourney and two more in the NCAA tourney shouldn't wipe out 7 years of mediocrity for AK, but it will. Some school will take a risk on him, and they probably will regret it.

Are you idiots still convinced that KenCAA is a bad coach? He'd win big at a school where he could recruit better.

I think he is. It shouldn't take 7 years to be successful by which every coach in American is judged. More power to him for getting the job done this year.

I didn't say he was a bad coach. I actually think he is "OK". Neither good or bad. I am just making the point that their is a better than average chance that OM returns to the bottom half of the league in the next few years, and that Kennedy should maybe get out while he is hot.

I just can't agree with judgement that simple. Just 'making the tournament' is such a short-sighted comparison. He's put a formidable product out there every year and constantly improved. And none of these guys were highly recruited. Ole Miss may really be the hardest program to recruit to, out of the BCS conferences.

He's an outstandingly mediocre coach, who has coached extremely well

the last couple of weeks. His "body of work" as they say is extremely average. The last five or so games, I have to admit he's done a great job. Wisconsin didn't just shoot poorly, they were scared to take it inside, and they were confused by our defensive switches for a large part of the game. His adjustments have been great.

That said, it's five or six games. I've got about 80 others that say the opposite.

wouldn't it really depend on the better job that comes open

I couldn't see him leaving for Alabama, but like UConn he would be dumb to turn down that gig

And I should have clarified - he isn't bad. But he's not good either. Like you said - he is mediocre.

I have been told repeatedly that Oxford is the easiest place to recruit in the entire country and that kids from around the country are lining up to sign those LOIs.

I was convinced long ago that he is an average coach. The fact that you can't officially makes you tripolar and an idiot to boot.

One thing about Kennedy is he's never had a team that looked particularly talented to me. So it's not like he's killing them coaching wise. He's putting together mediocre to a little better basketabll teams talentwise and getting mediocre to a little better results. So I could see getting to reruit at a school that cares about basketball making a big difference for him. If you can keep UM on the bubble consistently, you may not be great, but you're doing some things right.

It has taken him the life of a second-grader to get to the tourney in a very mediocre conference. I'm guessing he's home.
