That would be a good hire, but it seems like a lateral move for him. I know he was a GA here under Callahan, but he's a California native and has been at UCLA a long time.

Thought I heard that he approached us about the job

Would take him in a heartbeat. Knows the west coast, good recruiter, young guy. Many people have discussed his name.

I can understand why he may want to move on. Working with Mora can't be that fun, and I doubt Mora stays in college much longer.

I can't open this link at work, but on twitter some guy is saying we are pursuing McClure. Not sure if this link is just McClure's bio or further info. I had heard through the grapevine that McClure is our top choice and Tavita would be a fall back option if he doesn't want to come.

Angus McClure also has a son Hamish who is a 2018 QB prospect that has camped at Nebraska. I don't know anything about his abilities but Scout currently lists him as a dual-threat QB.

From the bio Jflores linked: "In 2013-14, he was named among the Top 25 Recruiters in College Football by Rivals. In addition, UCLA has had a defensive lineman selected in six of the past eight NFL drafts."

Yes please!!!

On the surface, that seems like a heck of a hire. Would love to hear from anyone with a little knowledge about him.

yeah, but Riley is like, what, 94? If those close to him are willing to roll him in his wheelchair to work next year, then Riley MIGHT be able to make it through the season. Why would the guy come work for a coach who is clearly on his last few breaths?

You are counting your chickens long before they hatch... Assuming Mike even makes it to next season! Now that's a BIG if!

Reading through his bio, it sounds like his area of expertise is on the O-line. He just started coaching D-line in 2012. It looks like he has solid recruiting chops, though.

Seems to be the only candidate universally mentioned by Husker fans.

GA under Callahan, Cleti Husker will blow a gasket.

I would love this hire. Someone who wants to coach here versus someone who will come coach here and wait for another job to open can be a big difference long term for the program. That's my sense here and hope it's true. Regardless GBR

When you say "anyone else" does that mean somebody besides you have heard chatter...seems to imply that you know or have heard chatter....what may that be and from whom?

McBride only coached O-Line when TO hired him, that worked out rather well.

I would assume that the Hughes departure just didn't come out of the blue, so Riley has to have been thinking about this for some time. I would certainly hope he has prospects in mind. Perhaps McClure is in the mix. Having someone with familiarity of CA can't hurt.

Yup. The more west coast connections the better.

Remember Kaz was an O lineman and n college. Regardless of his character, he was a pretty good D line coach at both Iowa and in Lincoln.

I hear he is in the ICU as we speak, being given last rites.

From a corn nation article. He has only coached DL for three seasons. In those threes seasons UCLA finished 98, 42 and 72 against the run. Not very inspiring.

My question regarding that though, is it the DL coaching or the DC's scheme?
2014 Nebraska was 78th in rush defense.
2015 Nebraska was 9th in rush defense.
Most people will say Kaz > Hughes but the numbers would say otherwise. So, maybe Angus is a good DL coach but the DL numbers look bad due to defensive philosophy??

Yep. It's pretty interesting. Although pretty funny because of his past, I've been told that Carl Pelini was actually a damn good D-Line coach. A couple of players in the NFL right now have verified this. (Not defending the Pelini family, it's just an interesting topic.)

An insider on another board thinks its a done deal, all the leg work between McClure and Riley. Communication has gone both ways. Just needing to get things smoothed over with Mora.

We'll see how it goes.

Yeah but Snohomish seems to be offended by farmers so we would have to read his bitches about hiring somebody named Angus for at least 100 posts or 8 months whichever came first.:(

He will probably complain (again if McClure is it), that we stole the DL coach from a basketball school.

In addition, this is the PAC 12 we're talking about. Much like the Big 12, you'd better be light, agile, and tooled to stop the pass.

That's the case. Blo would give up some rushing yards, as long as no one beat us over the top. Whereas Banker wants to stop the run with more guys in the box, but that also puts our DBs in a more precarious situation of having to work more in man coverage.

Would you say the same thing about Saban since they are almost the same age? BTW, Saban is 2 years older.
