Some pretty profound stuff right here. Up there with football pays the bills. NFSUntil I see names it's not a coach. It some stupid writer with ties to another SEC team call UK. Gives us name or shut the **** up.
The article says this:
Mighty lean years my friend. Did not knowThe article says this:
"The Bulldogs have never won less than three games in back-to-back seasons."
I hate to dispute this because it doesn't look good for us, but I was personally watching MSU FB in 1966, 67, and 68, which saw the following results:
1966- won 2 games
1967- won 1 game
1968- won zero games
I’d also argue that the author should’ve used “fewer”The article says this:

You, sir, deserve a medal for enduring what might be the most shitastic, multi-decade long, run of rarely-more-than-mediocre college football in the history of man.The article says this:

That’s why they make the big bucks. I mean.. after the Florida game last year, if you remember, we pondered and pondered what could be a big issue with this team.

The quote seems to be directed towards last year's defense... In which case "legitimately bad" is an understatement. "All time bad" would have been more accurate.
I didn't mention that several years prior to that three year period, and several years after that we were pretty terrible also. You, sir, deserve a medal for enduring what might be the most shitastic, multi-decade long, run of rarely-more-than-mediocre college football in the history of man.
Problem is, things are so different now, that I'm not sure anything in the past is relevant anymore to what we can do going forward. We've yet to show we can be competitive in a world where it's all pay for play and any player can be offered any unlimited amount of money to go play at whichever school. This is the worst situation we've ever had to deal with because we've always been the 'poorest' school in the SEC but we could essentially still offer every football student athlete anything 'legal' he could get anywhere else in terms of scholarships and stipends. Now we can't since its just an all out bidding ward.It takes a special coach and team to make **** happen here but it can be done and it's been proven. New stuff happening in NIL - Portal but I still hope we find a way to have some success. Remember we do get SEC TV monies and that matters.
I watched all of those games too. Back in those days we only played either 5 or 6 conference games so we played Memphis State, Tulane, and a bunch of directional schools almost every year. We were absolutely horrible. The article says this:

I say it's good but only if a lot of these transfers hit especially on the DL. Those 4 or 5 guys that were making playsIs this really good news, or not? A quote from the article,
"Things however seem to be getting better for Lebby’s defense this season, as "it returns four of its five leading tacklers from last season"
Returning four guys from one of if not THE worst defense in my 50+ years of watching Bulldog football, in Shania Twains words "that don't impress me much"
And I say it was always an all out bidding war, money being paid to players is not new.Problem is, things are so different now, that I'm not sure anything in the past is relevant anymore to what we can do going forward. You're right about Tyler. I was there. He was smarter than Sherrill as well although Sherrill gave us some great victories while he was at his best as well as mailing in some games coaching, especially Arkansas and LSuPeople point to Jackie Sherrill changing things but Bob Tyler was the first I saw making a change since the firing of Ally Mckeen. Sure, he did a little and got in trouble but any idiot that thinks that was something new in college football has no clue what was happening. I mean Tyler was an assistant at Ole Miss and Alabama, where do you think he learned what to do. NCAA set us back almost two decades for doing the same thing just in a lesser way that everyone else was already doing. Screw the NCAA.
Here is Tyler's record and this was not long after those lean years.
1973 4-5-2
1974 9-3
1975 6-4-1 - probation
1976 9-2 but we had to forfeit them all
1977 5-6 probation taking it's toll
Emory Bellard game in a few years later in 1980 and again 9-3 8-4 then Jackie, Mullen and Leach all had some success.
It takes a special coach and team to make **** happen here but it can be done and it's been proven. New stuff happening in NIL - Portal but I still hope we find a way to have some success. Remember we do get SEC TV monies and that matters.
