Another blind resume thread

In the other post, everyone picked Mississippi State (Team #1) as the clear leader in the race for one of the last two national seeds. NC State (Team #5) and Florida State (Team #3)got nods, but Oregon (#4), Oregon State (#2) and South Carolina (#6) were not selected when looking at a resume that doesn't include their names. Interesting.

In this thread, same deal, except that we are picking four teams to host. Four of these teams are currently projected as hosts.

Blindly, I say 6, 5, 1 and 4. Team 7 has a lot of bad losses.

9, 6, 1, and I'll go with 2.

Meant to put 2- I can't read today or something.

I don't see any real standouts in that list. There's no way to tell if 7 has bad losses or not. I suppose #1 would be a candidate based on SOS and a decent record, but they have a losing record against the top 50. And maybe 6.

Conference record might be something to add to the list.

Using the same simple analysis as the last one,

I come up with Team 1, 6, 7 and 4 in that order (followed by 5, 9, 2, 8, & 3). This formula just compares the 9 teams in the same way to end up with a 1 -9 ranking.

The formula probably puts too much emphasis on the SOS # because it divides the product (of OA%, Top 50 and Top 100 %s) by the SOS. So, smaller (harder) SOS will give a higher score. That 142 SOS is a killer! Also, I multiplied the score by 100 to make it easier to compare. Here are the numbers if interested.

Here's the reveal

After an hour and five replies:

1 and 6 got 4 votes
2, 4 and 9 got 3 votes
5 got 2 votes and 7 got 1 vote

Team 1 is Clemson. Not really being mentioned as a possible host.
Team 6 is UCLA. Pretty much considered a lock at this point.

Team 2 is Indiana, who is probably going to host
Team 4 is Ole Miss, interesting that they are closer than most think. Will be interesting to see how they stack up to South Carolina next week.
Team 9 is Louisville, who is trying their best to give away their host.

Team 5 got a vote. That's South Alabama, y'all.
Team 7 got a vote as well - that's Arizona State, considered a lock.

Teams 3 and 8 were Troy and UNC Wilmington, just to throw a kink in it.

Clemson probably because they have so many top 50 losses.

BUT- the fact that they've played 18 of them gives me respect for that. And a great SOS.

Give me that over some team that makes a schedule to give them 30 wins.

I see you're a Bear, but does the last statement transfer to FB also? Personally, I think it does.

Inspired by BiscuitEater, I did my own little spreadsheet analysis:

I gave each Win/Loss a point value based on strength of opponent:
vs
1-50
vs
51-99
vs 100+
Points per W 3 2 1
Points per L -1 -2 -3

9,4,1,2 make my cut. I think that's pretty fair.

One thing to remember about Clemson's SOS. The ACC is way overrated by RPI, so their SOS is also overrated.

Yep, fair, but Team 6 isn't far behind. How does MSU stack up when you put us in the spreadsheet?

And I suppose everything's subject to change depending on the rest of the season.

I suppose I misinterpreted your logo. Please accept my sincerest apologies ... an assertion like that is worthy of a flogging. Must be the flag the Colonel is holding ....

Ehh.... they've played North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina so far. Got FL State coming up, too.

Did lose to Georgia, though. But, so has Vandy and Ga Tech. And they beat them in the other game.

It's tongue in cheek humor from when I was 18 and I never changed it.

I think when the season plays out, UNC, UVA & GT will wind up lower than where they're ranked now. The ACC has 7 of the top 14 RPI teams compared to the SEC's 3. And the SEC will kick the ACC's *** in postseason just like it does every year.

We'll see.

Truthfully, I haven't gotten to actually watch a lot. I saw UNC early in the year and they looked pretty stout to me. They looked like a #1 should look then.

But I certainly haven't kept up with any of those recently.

SOS plays a huge roll in a simple analysis. I didn't realize that they were so well regarded WRT RPI. It's actually BETTER for the SEC teams that do make the regionals to play OVERATED ACC teams.

Historically, the ACC gets to the CWS regularly but I always like to remind them that the "last" ACC team to win the CWS was Wake Forest almost 60 years ago. They had to go out and recruit Miami to finally add a team that had won. FSU has been 21 times, Clemson 12, UNC 9, and UVA a couple of times lately BUT no championship.
